I'd offer Ranta $13.4mx7=$94m if the Avs offered $11.75mx8=$94m but I'm convinced he signs with Carolina. I just hope Tre does not let Ferris bend him over if the Leafs are afraid to let Marner walk for nothing.

Marner is essentially nothing in the playoffs. Look at the team as is last night. Was that going places?
I don't think he will sign with the Canes unless Canes win the Cup or in the Finals.
Also, I believe Ranta will test UFA, whats the rush in signing with a team just traded for you and not wait a few more months and see what type of options are out there.
I would use the 22mil from JT and MM on Ranta and Bennett.

I thought Marner and Matthews were crap last night except for a few moments. Willie was the one that looked as dangerous as 29 and 97 most of the night. Still think 16 and 88 shy away from contact.
I hope they show some balls and let both Marner and Tavares test free agency and go shopping on July 1 with $22m to spend. This team needs new blood. It is stale. Hey, I believe today is Groundhog day. Unfortunately every day is Ground Hog day when it comes to the Leafs.

If we move on from Marner (which I would want if we have another upset in the playoffs), in a perfect world we’d sign and trade Marner to his choosing so he could get the 8th year and we can get a player who can slot onto our 2nd or 3rd line while freeing up some cap space for the other team to fit Marner in. I look at a team like LA for this and would take Moore in return.

If he came out unsolicited and gushed about Marner (like he has Crosby) then I would understand. He didn't, he was specifically asked about his thoughts on Marner being on the team and he responded kindly..like all hockey players do.
Mcdavid was also asked about his relationship with Matthews and Mcdavid said its a growing relationship, they have the same agent now etc.
Should we assume Mcdavid is coming to Toronto and we need to not sign Marner in order keep cap space open for him?
All those quotes by players about other players to the media are nothing but window dressing and PR.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Tavares money, with the increase perhaps covering other increases from this year.
I’m guessing Marner’s camp will now be looking at $13 million x 8 with the expected cap growth over the next three years.
I’m not a huge Marner guy but a sticker price of a $13 million contract is a $2 million plus change raise on what he’s making now, which isn’t really that unmanageable.
The difference between Rantanen and Marner is the Avs got a better AAV on the last round so the relative increase they would have had to pay out was a bigger increase. $9.5 million to $13.5 would be $4 million.
Justifying an overpay because of a previous overpay is a bold strategy. Let’s see if it pays off cotton.

Sounds like something he wouldn't go for, but having the ability to go the market with possibly a $115m cap may be enticing to him.
There are 3 players in the NHL with more points than Marner. This isn't a question of whether the Leafs fold in these negotiations. It's simply a matter of how badly they fold. It will be less than Matthews' AAV, but probably not a heck of a lot less.
Yup but in reality we should be looking to use the cap growth to make the team better not just feed it to the same guys who can’t seem to get the job done.

However, if it is another first round exit. The team really need to ask the question, Can we really win with these guys? The core 5 needs to perform to warrant that they can get it done. So far they had not done it. And I think their playoffs sample size is large enough to draw conclusions on them.
If it is up to me, if they failed to perform again this off season, none of them is safe and that includes AM. I could careless about NMC and NTC. As players with them can always be move.
