This team could really use a Lawson Crouse/Alex Tuch type power forward in the top 6 now. A line of Crouse - Chytil - Garland has a very unique combination of skillsets that would work.

My prediction is that Boeser is gone before the 4 Nations.

1. Deadline is a month away and the team likely wants to have time to reassess and target players and can’t be held up on Boeser contract talks which haven’t progressed much at all.

2. It is likely they have a couple of players they already have in mind but need further assets in order to have a strong enough presentable package, and Boeser should fetch a 1st at 50% retained ($3.325M) and possibly a bit more.

I'm thinking the opposite, I don't think they make another move until after Four Nations to see if certain guys have a resurgence after the break. (and let's be honest, a bunch of guys on this team need the break)

They'll probably narrow down the price range with Boeser's agent over the break, and then see how he plays after to decide if he's worth locking up or trading.

With all the cap space they'll have towards the deadline I hope they try to buy low on some guys, or even get paid to take on a cap dump.

Mangiapane, Crouse, maybe even someone like Coyle if the Bruins needs to free up some space to add another piece.

Just revived an article I was working on with just this in mind. Now that they have cap space, it's very realistic they can take a stab at a reclamation project at very little cost. Was thinking of looking at both players with term and rentals.

Previous regime has ruin many things for me, reclamation project being one of them.

Can we trust our team to polish a rough diamond into an actual gem? Or will it be another failure on the mountain?

Uh oh, is that Zegras’s music I hear.

It also should be pointed out that trades can be made during the stoppage. This isn't a roster freeze. I'm very curious if the league tells teams to hold off until the tournament is over, like with the playoffs, or if they let GMs run roughshod. Maybe instruct them not to do anything on game days (12th, 13th, 15th, 17th & 20th).

Yes.

This is all because people here think he's Hughes' friend, right? Because unless they are getting him for nothing, there's really no way he winds up a Canuck. There's no incentive for Anaheim to just give him away.

No, I mentioned him because he fits the criteria of U25 underperforming younger players who has had a number of teams explore interest in him over the course of a year. And yes, Anaheim has no real incentive, yet.

I wonder if canucks will look to trade soucy

Possibly but I doubt it. He's got a full NTC this season and does not want to leave. Drance wrote an article late last week that talked about how the Canucks front-office strongly believes he's part of the solution. This coaching staff has scratched guys for this same reason in the past. Even Myers was a healthy scratch last season. They don't view healthy scratches the same way fans or media does.

Crouse is getting PDO’d pretty hard this year. He’s never put up massive on-ice SH%s but I’d still be ok taking a flyer on him if he were available.

No idea if you could convince them to move Barrett Hayton but he would be a great fit for this team in a world where they aren’t going to come close to replacing Miller up the middle.

There’s also an opportunity to hopefully rebuild his value a bit in a sheltered role on the third pairing with Pettersson in the fold.

I don't see them moving Hayton unless it's in a package for an upgrade (IE. Pettersson) given his age, contract, and the team's current expectations.

Even Crouse, I doubt they have much interest in moving him unless Boeser is going the other way (obviously they add). Same reasons as Hayton, they're probably fine holding on to him next season hoping he rebounds unless they get a good piece in return.

My thought about this the last few days has been they should make one trade for an established guy, and then one that's a buy low. They don't have true organizational wealth and vast expendable assets to even be going for the established guy if we're being honest, but it's clear they're going to. And they do need to, don't get me wrong.

But if you're doing that for one guy, you absolutely cannot do it again. Maybe it's Terry that people have suggested as the guy you pay assets for and then go for Cozens as the buy-low guy. He doesn't pass my eye test but then again, there's like 3 right shot centers under the age of 25 that you could maybe actually get. Mercer is another one there.

DeBrusk - Pettersson - Terry
Suter/Hoglander - Chytil - Boeser
Joshua - Cozens/Mercer - Garland
DOC - Blueger - Sherwood

Hughes - Hronek
MPete - Myers
DPete - Soucy
Forbort - Mancini

Some opportunities to get some assets for some of our UFAs, Soucy, *whispers* Demko, and parlay those maybe.

I think Rutherford and Allvin are losing their minds honestly watching Petey play.
This team is going to go nowhere with him playing like this, he was better in the third, but we need so much more.

Honestly, new coach or not, I would seriously consider a trade if we get a decent package together from Buffalo or CBJ

My guess is they still think there will be interested parties come the draft. And I don't think that's a bad assumption given the cap raise.

Makes a lot of sense to see how he fares leading the team down the charge here. And if that 4nations tournament can reinvigorate him.

Team's cleared out almost every possible/perceived obstacle to lay down the red carpet for him.

What are you guys going to look for? Probably now you don't need our LDs PMD. Cozens + Tuch? Cozens + prospect + pick?
