He kept things simple and got 2 goals and 1 assist. He needs to look at how he played this game and just do it over and over again

One of his best games of the season and in a while. When he's on, very few have his energy plus skill combination. Makes you frustrated when he goes silent for a few games, but one of our leaders today

Marner remains a high ceiling player with low floor capabilities. If you get the 5-3 win over the Jets version of Marner in late in a playoff series in a Game 6 or 7, you have a special franchise player leading you to success. If you get the version of Marner from the last Jets game in those same games, then you have some issues.

No he just needs to keep on being the elite player that he is. Mitch takes too much grief from posters with agendas to try to make their favourite players look better than they are.

Like no other elite player has a few games where they can’t score.
If you get frustrated by Mitch not scoring for a few games you must go crazy when nylander disappears. Or maybe you only call out players you don’t like.

I don’t get this mentality, he’s literally one of the best players to don the uniform in a generation and you’re acting like he needs to finds consistently or something. Sorry this is nuts.

We won tonight, but were winless in the 5 previous game, won a bunch before that and had lost 6 of 7 before that, so it's not we get this version of Marner every night or don't see the other Marner for long stretches too.

Third fastest Leaf in history to reach 300 points, plays PK, closes out games, most minutes, 4th in points entire league. Ya, we got ourselves a real bipolar enigma here. Bullocks bro. Every player has down games, you must have hated Sundin too I guess.

It's crazy. He's had like 5 truly bad games this year - and still put up points in those games, our 2nd best player this year by far, will be one of the best leafs ever, and whiners complain about a few bad games where the entire team was mostly trash and our goalies couldn't make a save.

These same posters criticized marner for any mistakes because of their agenda to prop up their favourite player. It’s the usual crew who disappears when he is awesome or give him a back handed atta boy.

This is so obnoxious. Star players have slow spurts and bad games sometimes.

McDavid once went 3 straight games without a point this year. Marner hasn't.

He’s 3rd in the league in scoring, it’s pathetic to argue he’s been inconsistent. What more do you want? 2nd in forward ice time behind McJesus, he’s been an absolute horse for all 200 ft of ice. You don’t have your A game every night, nobody does, so why criticize what you know is normal. The thing with a Marner even when he’s “off” he still might grind out a point, he never disappears, still contributes. I start with the premise he’s an artist on the ice, sometimes when he’s not fully “on” his creativity can lead to a giveaway or his IQ looks like “too fancy”. Never change.

I’m quite happy to be a Marner “fan boy” and a vocal defender. I like lining up behind guys who one day might be bronzed, have their jersey hanging in the rafters. You’ll never lose in the long run backing this thoroughbred and some of the criticism here is comical. Enjoy the kid, he’s a special, unique talent, this franchise has rarely seen.

The only thing fans should be complaining about Marner is that he should not be making $1.5m more than Ranta. Even so, Dubas has found a way to make this a very good team so I no longer complain about Dubas been taken to the woodshed by the 3 amigos.

Why? He's better than Rantanen.

Marner has the 7th highest salary in the league, is third in scoring, second in minutes among forwards, kills penalties. He's also flashy as heck and a ton a fun to watch, so it's not like he's great because of subtleties that need a keen eye to appreciate.

Maybe people who think Marner is overpaid or Dubas got "taken to the woodshed" need to figure it out. Funny they watch the guy play every night and don't seem to know what they are looking at.

I think you can believe he makes too much and also say there isn’t a team in the league that wouldn’t take him right now for that salary.

Ranta is the better goal scorer and is a whole 0.02 lower in P/PG. Sorry as great a player as Marner is he is not $1.5m greater than Ranta IMO.

Cold stretch: Here is every single mistake and all of the ways that Marner sucks! I don't care if I'm wrong, or about the bigger picture, or that these things happen to everybody - it's a snapshot in time!

Hot stretch: Yeah... but remember his cold stretch?

He absolutely should be making 1.5m more than Rantanen. He's a better player, and has been for a long time now.

You do realize that Marner has a 1.23 PPG and the Rantanen has a 1.21 PPG this season and over the past 3 years that number is 1.16 PPG for Marner and 1.13 for Rantanen, right?
