Marner was downright moronic on that play. And I really like Marner.

Marner was so pumped to score that goal vs Ottawa to put Toronto right back into it on Saturday - and rightfully so. But I think there’s definitely a danger for when the big guns start pulling off offensive heroics to cancel out bad play because they start thinking they can either flip a switch, don’t respect the opposition as much or think they can hero it alone. And those bad habits seem to result in poor play after those big nights. Like a bad hockey hangover.

I think of the Carolina Christmas game in 2019, the Columbus Game 4 comeback, the 3-0 domination of Edmonton (though that wasn’t offensive domination, just hype) and Saturday night as some examples off the top of my head.

Interesting thought. Will watch to to see if Marner does indeed fall prey to 'irrational exuberance'.

He's officially slumping now. Terrible details and motivation levels, boneheaded plays, soft on the puck, creative, chaotic decisions with the puck. And shooting so much when he shouldn't.
Exactly. Just absolutely reckless. Aside from Rielly handling the puck like a grenade, Marner should get the majority of the criticism for the Leafs crappy pp. He is supposed to be the pp quarterback. He has been since junior. The fact that he can't use any of his creativity with the amount of talent that's on the ice and has to resort to boneheaded giveaways and weak flub shots on net is ridiculous.

This bs pp could cost us the playoffs.

He's playing so bad I'm surprised half our team isn't dead!

Seriously though guys, maybe try to keep it real and ease up on the superlatives. Yeah he had a bad game or two. f***in chill.

Attrocious game again today. He's our best player though and not allowed to be criticized:sarcasm:

Marner has been bad with his passing, shot selection and attention to details ever since the Ottawa hero game. It's clear he's a guy who thinks he can be a difference maker but also because he thinks he can make up for sloppy play with brilliance, it makes him a wild card every time he touches the puck. Like he says "shit happens."

Again a negative when Auston isn't carrying him. His low IQ plays are killing this team.
Looks like last year Marner. Wonder if a I love Toronto video is being uploaded?

Do you really think anyone is picking up what you are layin down with this crap. It’s time you get a new hobby maybe. This one doesn’t seem to be making any sense for you.

Marner scoring at a less than 1 ppg pace the past 2 months. I remember at the beginning of the year specific people really thought he would challenge for the art Ross. He's been slipping in the standings ever since the first few weeks. Rantanen currently now has a better ppg average and scores more goals.

It's simple, the leafs need more out of him for what they're paying and how much they play him.

The PP woes are a definite factor.

True, but Mitch should be taking some responsibility for that considering he touches the puck the most on the PP out of everyone on the roster.

It would be nice if the Leafs actually tried to engage the players down low and in the bumped rather than just passing it between Matthews, Rielly and Marner the entire time. Their pp is so one dimensional with no movement.

Oh I agree, he's the driver on the PP and probably the most accountable for it's struggles. For all his creativity and playmaking you can't let the PP struggle that much. Especially for what he's making.

When he pulls of his amazing moves? You appreciate his skill and creativity, cause not many players can do what he does.

But there are times it seems like he feels he is in junior and can deke his way through the other team and deke or suicide pass his way out of trouble. That doesn't always work in the NHL.

I would have hoped he had grown out of some of these habits at this point. Still an amazing player though.

Marner needs to score more goals. His line becomes too predictable if he's not looking to score. It just becomes prevent Matthews from getting the puck and wait for Marner to do something risky to intercept the puck.

No doubt Marner is a great player but he needs to smarten up with his decisions and also needs to understand the meaning of keeping the game simple. He has been in a slump the last few games

I think he has to go. I think it's plain lunacy spending 10.9M on him, just crazy. Leafs need to allocate his cap hit to other holes in their lineup.

Sadly it will take more time for Leaf management to realize that you can't allocate half a flat cap to 4 slightly overpaid forwards. Mitch and Willie have a ton of talent but if they are neutralized again in this year's playoffs, something will have to give. You are not winning a cup with a 4th line of 97 19 and 24.
