Simmonds has 0 goals and 1 assist in 8 games.

Since we traded him?

1 goal 3 assists in 25 games.

Unbelievable. Feel bad for him at this point.

How’s that dead cat bounce?

For his sake, I hope he gets to 20-25 goals when it’s all said and done. Jersey sucks and needs a new coach; he’s not alone on that team in underperforming.

I would not write off Jersey so quickly. They're at the point the Flyers and Blues were last year, where any new coach will be a big improvement. Like the Flyers, they've outplayed a lot of teams in their losses, like Edmonton. They outchanced Arizona 19-8. Hughes is just starting to get going. Subban was 65% CF tonight.

Hischier's been bad, and Gusev's been a disaster. I wouldn't expect that to continue.

Nico no, Gusev is a KHL star that NHL teams had their doubts - and maybe for a good reason?
Bratt CF 36.6, CFrel -11.4, Gusev CF 34.4, CFrel -15.6.
Simmons CF 52.2, CFrel 8.1

Maybe size does matter?

In all fairness his contract is an easy one to move on from for the Devils. 5 million a year ......

You really think that when it comes to Simmonds?

Talk about drawing conclusions from stats.

More a matter of having fun with statistics.

Though it's sad that the washed up power forward has much better Corsi than the two examples of "size doesn't matter, just skill" on the Devils.
Maybe Corsi is overrated, or maybe just being small and quick isn't enough, you actually have to be talented like Hughes?

I mean, I think there is more to it than that.

Boqvist is only just 20, and he did not "dominate" the SHL like say Lindblom, Pettersson, Zetterberg did before they came to North America, or even play quite as well as say Arviddson, Johnsson, Jarnkrok etc. (though he is not exactly "small" either. When drafted 2 years ago he was 6'0 and 179lbs... he is heavier than that now, I'd guess 185-190) My guess is that he could probably do with a few months of AHL time. He HAS only played 2 games though, which is quite a small sample...

Gusev does lead the team in goals and have the 4th most points of any of their fwds. He is super talented, he will very likely finish the year with ~60 points I guess on a poor team.

Gusev can score, but a lot of those super small forwards are also horrid on defense. And they often disappear in the playoffs.
Give me "shrimps" like Giroux and TK, who have enough size to hold their own, but still have speed, quickness and offensive skills.
While there is a role for the late round undersized "find," too many in the lineup can leave you imbalanced.

As last year playoffs demonstrated, while the league has become more wide open with more speed and quickness, it is more a matter of eliminating slugs than the "fastest team wins," guys like Couts and Stone are doing fine without winning any speed skating events.

Flyers have done pretty well against speed so far this season, while they're not as fast as the fastest teams, AV has them getting bodies on bodies (not necessarily hitting people but taking away space and crowding them). The Flyers seem "fast enough."

Snowing in the Heritage Classic in Regina and it's starting to collect. As usual, not great TV.

And they're playing the Goo Goo Dolls.

Just admit you don’t know anything about Gusev and you haven’t wat he’d him more than one game.

The Flyers are pretty fast now, IMO. Mostly due to their transitional system being much improved, so the forwards aren’t standing around stationary.

Now Maurice is challenging a PP goal.
Imagine sitting in the snow in SK at this time of night and the refs make you wait for a few minutes with nothing going on.
