That’s not even the most questionable sports contract buyout in New York. The Mets are paying Bobby Bonilla through 2035, when he’ll be 72 years old. He hasn’t been a Met since the Clinton administration.

imagine having 1/3rd of your salary taken from you , and instead of getting paid every 2 weeks you get paid once a month? It would suck
For a chance to retire at 32? I'll take that and run. Probably to Argentina same time zone, place is cheap and people are nice.

JTown you argue some of the strangest things on this website. Dipietro couldn’t even play any more. Islanders had to buy him out with what was agreed upon within the CBA which the players sign off on. So there no remorse. He made out extremely well and is still gettin paid handsomely in retirement. It was part of the deal.

I don’t want to hear your takes on NFL contracts lol

I don't see what is nuts about it. it really sucks for the player.

Have you ever looked at the deal Atlanta gave Bruce Sutter in 1985? Now there's a deferred deal where it makes sense for the player if you're not in desperate need of immediate liquidity. His agent even got exclusively increasing interest upscaling.

Brent Sopel was actually talking about it on Spittin Chiclets the other day. Said Wang loved him.

12.3% with an upward scaling clause after the first 6 years and every dollar guaranteed at signing for a 32 year old Relief Pitcher in 1985.

The most interesting part of the contemporary framing was that it was a bet on a discussed flat income tax being in place by the time the principal was due.
