Isles 0-3-2 since Pageau joined the team. Not that its his fault. Team was never good to begin with. Trotz effect has worn off.
They were sliding before the trade too. Make the moves in the offseason like smart teams do because they know exactly where the picks they are moving are located.

1st and 2nd and 6x5 contract for Pageau. Tank

4th rd pick for Grant, haven't lost since he arrived.

Just goes to show why you almost never give up real assets at the TDL.

Also, "big name" acquisitions at the deadline almost never work out. Depth pieces are a lot more effective
That’s for sure. Installing new “core” pieces to a unit that’s been operating together all season often seems to disrupt chemistry. Not as much of an issue with depth guys who play less & have easier roles.

Either outcome is a win in some way, as being 5 clear of PIT would be fantastic, but now there's a real chance to play CBJ/NYI. That changes everything and I'm solidly hoping for a PIT win.

The Flyers are going to cool off a little too, and that's ok. We shouldn't panic. They're good and their backup Goaltending hopefully doesn't matter in a little over a month.

Yup. They have to lose eventually, I just hope it isn't one of the interdivisional 4 point swing games. Keep rolling against the metro

We spanked them twice at home when we got the matchups. Panarin had 1 point in 2 games and Zibanejad had 0. The power of Sean Couturier.
Not to take anything away from those 2. They're great players. But you aren't going to go anywhere in the playoffs built like that

So here's a crazy scheduling quirk:

4 of the Flyers' final 15 games are against the Metro, which seems crazy to me.

On the flip side, 14 of Pittsburgh's final 16 games are against the Metro, including 4 against Carolina.

The Pens are going to be an influential team with respect to the final Metro standings whether they want to be or not.

alot of them are young players, they either can be good or bad when they get aquired, i mean if they were vets like what we were doing, it might have been a different story since you know what you are getting out of them.

What young players are often traded during the deadline? It’s mostly mid-twenty guys at most which isn’t that young. That’s a prime of a career.

Most deadline deals don’t work in general because you’re often renting a guy for a few months. Not exactly a big sample to extract enough on ice value. Team success or lack thereof is ultimately weighted in the discussion too.

For guys of Grant & Thompson’s ilk you essentially have little to no expectations for them coming into it so there’s only really one way to go & that’s up. You paid little for them too so if they suck there’s no buyer remorse.
