I've officially been called out on the mains for "cheating" at Puckdoku because my answers for the Pittsburgh column this morning were too obscure
Somebody needs to synch this up to Kung-fu fighting. They'd get dozens of like and re-tweets.
I'd say it was entirely predicatable.TDA to Carolina 1/$1.6. Don’t know what to say about this. Seems a bit off to me

How will Carolina recover as an NHL franchise? It would be bad optics for Carolina to back out of an agreed upon deal just b/c the league insisted the deal couldn't be finalized until July 9.
One exception was Gardiner, who I think had a bad back.It never fails to amaze me how the arc of player value always bends back in the Canes' favor. People made fun of the Kotkaniemi trade and contract. Well, in year 1/8 at age 22, he was worth more than his cap hit. Skjei too seemed questionable, and look at him now. The Canes wanted to sign DeAngelo a year ago, but they had his value pegged at ~$3MM. Well, now they get him at $1.6MM (just like they got him for $1MM last time). With a 2nd and 3rd and 4th.

AND now we stuck with a buyout penalty..It's something I called when we were buying him out. Was fully predictable. Flyers got played because of Tortorella. Everyone knew he was leaving either via trade or buyout. Carolina ends up waiting to sign him for free instead of trading.
You know Charlie covers the Flyers with the amount of pushback he gets on this point. All them poor bastards know is overpaying for mediocre or worse secondary & depth players as the right way to build a team.
So those keeping track:
Carolina signed ADA twice at ZERO cost both times and paid him 1M and 1.6M for 2 years of service. So 2.6M for 2 years of service and no acquisition cost.
Philly pays a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounder, pays him 5M last year, and 1.67 M this year, and 1.67 next year to not play for them. So 8.34M for 1 year of service and 3 picks to aquire.
It really is laughable the difference in Mgt competence.
Reminder, ADA was not a mistake in some people's eyes. Even in hindsight.
