Not really surprised he doesn't want to coach anymore. Felt like he was just phoning it in in his last season with us. Like he lost every desire to coach in the NHL.
It's weird how quickly it all fell apart. Until covid the Flyers under Vigneault looked like a potential contender.

I think it's interesting that every coach the Flyers have had since signing Bryzgalov has veered incredibly defensive. Lavi did it and we know he was pushed to from above. Berube was more open in STL after his first month after being extremely meticulous and safe here. Hakstol is more open in Seattle after focusing heavily on risk-free safety. AV eventually turned into a mega-safe defense-first coach, which was always doomed because he's never shown the slightest understanding of defense at any point. The common denominators are all the same people as usual in Flyers management. The same people responsible for finally hiring an actual fully defense-only coach in Tortorella.
I can see how that could destroy AV's desire to coach. "Hey, do us a favor and focus on the thing you don't understand, OK?" Followed by "We blame you for this"

We talk about how woefully the Flyers handle player skills all the time, but they sure seem just as woefully terrible at handling coach skillsets too. Tortorella is the first one in ages who actually fully is what they want. Which is more reason to urgently fire everyone right now.
