Why would Yzerman acquire a player to buy them out? Did he owe Holland a favor or something? That is baffling.

I'm very shocked Daniel sprong is going to ufa status, thought he was very efficient 5v5 scorer, depending on the contract he might be worth a look

They wouldn’t win his arb case. They’ll try finding another one and let someone overpay him.
Don't think he'd get much better usage here under Tortorella.

He was top 5 in primary points per 60 last season. I don't think it'd be a bad gamble to pay him and see what he can do with more 5v5 time and better linemates.

Geekie also not qualified. I think he'd be a good pickup as well.

So Kostin didn’t get a QO either from the red wings. Now of course they can bring him back but this was probably one of Steve Y’s worst trades to date. I also believe there were rumors Edmonton wasn’t going to qualify him either, he got zero value out of taking two dumps

I think we all know that it was Formenton. It hasn’t been specifically stated, but all of the other Canadian Men’s Juniors players have made statements/played in the NHL since then.

Formenton is the only one to not make a statement regarding it and he didn’t play in the NHL all year, despite being healthy. Not to mention that he was coming off an 18 goal season in his first full NHL season as a 22-year-old with size and speed.

I think we need to stop tainting the other players on that team when there is no evidence that they were involved.

I haven't been following this that closely and I know the report is out this month, but any other rumors floating around?

Something similar happened with the Flyers and Stastny brothers.

In 1978, the Flyers selected Anton Stastny with the 198th overall pick. This was a move devised by Ed Snider in an attempt to get all 3 Stastny Brothers in Anton, Peter, and Marian to defect from Czechoslovakia and join the Philadelphia Flyers. However, Snider’s plan fell through when the NHL ruled that the Flyers selection of Anton Stastny was invalid due to the fact that he was not 20 years old in 1978 (20 years old was the threshold in order to be drafted).
The next year, the Quebec Nordiques selected Anton Stastny with the 83rd overall pick in the 1979 draft. All three brothers then defected from Czechoslovakia to play in Quebec and the rest is history. Peter ended up scoring 450 goals and 1239 points in 977 games while playing 15 years in the NHL. Anton had 636 points in 650 games, while Marian had 294 points in 322 games. Peter was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998.

Since I don't see any mention it here. It's pretty impressive that the Wild will be a (semi) competitive team next year with 14 million in dead cap.

That kind of dead cap would have killed the Flyers.
