Wait, there was no market for Wheeler? He had 55 points last year and only one year left on his contract.

Detroit is buying out Yamamoto after acquiring him for future considerations? Like what the f*** type of move is that Stevie Y?
Buying out Yamamoto was, evidently, the price for them to get Kostin.

Speaking of, we're hopefully going to have a bunch of open slots on the roster, and Yamamoto's only going to be 25. Wouldn't mind seeing if he could pot a few goals for us in the middle 6 this year.

Is Yamamoto an interesting player? Saw he got a decent amount of icetime with McDavid and Draisaitl last season. A little concerning that he couldn't get more done with the best forwards in the game, no?

Duchene to the Avs?

Maybe Nashville didn't trade him at 50% cause they already have two RS slots used:

DEAD CAP

RETAINED SALARY (2)2023-242024-252025-262026-272027-282028-29
Johansen, Ryan$4,000,000$4,000,000
Ekholm, Mattias$250,000$250,000$250,000
TOTAL$4,250,000$4,250,000$250,000

Trading Hayes with 50% retained is a lot more palatable than buying out Duchene.
Says Nashville is reloading, not rebuilding.

But it's become obvious that teams are more wary of big cap hits,
Even with the cap going up next summer.
We'll see how this impacts the FA market.

Am trying to picture what this team will look like after trading a bunch of the current players away. They'll still have to trot a mostly NHL roster out there, so I can picture the team backfilling the open positions with cheaper guys like him and Bailey until it's time to put a real roster back together.

It's funny to watch teams eat salary/dump guys....only to then throw money after other guys instead....who are not upgrades.
I mean, it WOULD be funny, if we weren't used to watching our team doing it themselves.

Almost feel bad for Yamamoto. First he gets traded for nothing and then he gets bought out by the team that got him for nothing. He must feel like pure shit right now lol.
Is he that bad? I always thought he was one of the more promising depth players for Edmonton.
