The thing about Florida is they are a "just get in and anything can happen" team that bubble (and worse) clubs can monotone as an excuse to not rebuild, while ignoring that the Panthers have a legit 1C in McBarkov and top-line wingers in Tkachuk and Verhaeghe.
They had also been playing at a high level for months. But it’s funny how they’re basically doing now what everyone expected from them last year and burned a lot of their assets to do.

Toronto might be ripe for getting their picks and prospects in a trade if they are desperate. Try and sell them on Provy or Hart and make them overpay

Don't have much in way of picks unless they are willing to move what 1st rounders they have left

Over next 3 drafts only have 5 picks in first 4 rounds.

B's 2023 1st
Leafs 2024 1st
Islanders 2024 3rd
Leafs 2024 4th
Leafs 2025 3rd

They already traded away

2023 Leafs 1st (To Blues in ROR deal)
2023 Leafs 2nd (To Kraken in Giordano deal)
2023 Leafs 3rd (To Nucks in Schenn deal)
2023 Leafs 4th (To Preds in deal for 2022 4th)
2024 Leafs 2nd (To Blues in ROR deal)
2024 Leafs 3rd (To Kraken in Giordano deal)
2025 Leafs 1st (To Hawks in McCabe/Lafferty deal)
2025 Leafs 2nd (To Yotes in Dzingel/Lyubushkin deal)
2025 Leafs 4th (To Wild in ROR deal)

They also traded away 2026 2nd round pick (To Hawks in McCabe/Lafferty deal)

As far as prospects outside of Knies who they basically have said is off limits they only have a few mid-level prospects such as

Minten (2022 2nd)
Voit (2021 5th)
Hirvonen (2020 2nd)
Niemela (2020 3rd)

Who would draw some interest but not great interest

And Amirov given cancer battle is someone Leafs will hold onto, and hope things work out for best

They should be in on Hart. Cap hit is almost the same as Murray. Send him over in a dump as see if he can’t do enough to flip for an asset later.

They were last year's President's Trophy winners and were on the wrong side of the expected goals vs actual goals data this year.

They're a good team, but were the decided underdog in both of these series. Reinhart is basically a point per game guy playing on their third line...

They pretty much went all in for core this TDL outside of Sandin deal which was trading away young LD for a 1st round pick

In

C Ryan O'Reilly
C/W Noel Acciari
C/W Sam Lafferty
C Josh Pillar (Prospect)
D Jake McCabe
D Luke Schenn
D Erik Gustafsson
Bruins 2023 1st
Islanders 2024 3rd
Flames or Hawks 2024 5th (Hawks own both, Whichver is lowest goes to Leafs0
Hawks 2025 5th

Out

D Rasmus Sandin
RW Pierre Engvall
RW Joey Anderson
C Adam Gaudette
W Pavel Gogolev (Prospect)
C Mikhail Abramov (Prospect)
Leafs 2023 1st
Leafs 2023 3rd
Sens 2023 3rd
Leafs 2024 2nd
Leafs 2025 1st (Top 10 protected, becomes 2026 if its top 10)
Leafs 2025 4th
Leafs 2026 2nd

If Core fails to do shit and meekly goes out to Panthers they cant blame Dubas because frankly the guys on list he brought in have at least shown up vs Panthers. The big 3 is MIA

Are they going to go full hockey guy after the Panthers close out the series? Dubas gone and a star to Carolina for peanuts?

I feel like they good pieces but they don’t fit the right holes. Matthews strikes me more of a triggerman, and he’s a hell of a triggerman, but he’ll never will a team to win. I’m not sure if you want that kind of player as your 1c. I said in the mainboard that if I was the leafs I would see who the best dman is that they can get for either Marner or Nylander+(but they don’t really have any +’s). They really need a #1d. Leafs are kinda stuck in an awkward position. They are way too good to sell off and rebuild but they don’t have enough to get over the hill

Suddenly, Marner for Provorov is relevant again :sarcasm:
Why would we want Marner?

Seriously, he'd only make sense if Couts is 100% b/c it's becoming obvious he's like Tavares and Panarin, guys who put up a lot of points but are "Robins", they need a Batman to lead and they can follow.

Toronto is the poster child for "intangibles matter."

Florida is the poster child for why it's dumb to count on TDL moves - build a good team and trust it.

I don't know why someone hasn't told Florida to play conservative/safe against "more talented" competition.

The Flyer way after all is the way to the promise land.
Don't watch the Kraken, Hakstol is taking a page out of the Torts playbook.

Zito paid 28th overall, a 3rd, and Devon Levi for Reinhart and Montour.

Chuck paid 13th overall, Ghost, Hagg, a 2nd, a 7th, and a 2nd round pick swap for Rasmus Ristolainen.

Same difference.
Uh, turns out Levi ain't chopped liver, top NCAA goalie the last two years.

The Panthers are a lot like the 2012 Kings. The Kings in 2012 also barely made the playoffs with a team that should've been much better during regular season.
It seems like when a team has to battle hard until the last day of the regular season it's easier for them to switch into playoff mode.
Yup, we saw that with the Flyers in 2010.

Oettinger has been horrendous against Seattle

One of Seattle's strongest proponents railed about the lack of goaltending in these playoffs while conveniently ignoring that Seattle has so far faced some of the easiest goaltending so far.

Last game was interesting. Seattle had Dallas's number last night and was picking apart their D coverage in close. When most other teams can do that they just absolutely assault the net. That's not what the shot distribution shows; they had more than their usual number of high quality chances, but overall still lived on the perimeter.

Just may be one of those seasons where few goalies raise their game for the playoffs.
Bob has had a nice short run, but would you trust him, or is it just a matter of time before he reverts to "playoff Bob"?

Agreed, but who would have predicted that Bob would be invoking his inner Tretiak so far? They started Lyon in Round 1 against the history-making Boston Bruins, for goodness' sake.

Sheshterkin raised his game. He was excellent. Turns out your current favorite authority figure was wrong about not being able to win on brute offense, he was simply overwhelmed.
