And that includes Gostisbehere being on two gutter-trash franchises and spending more than half of his career being buried on the 3rd pair with AHLers.

He’s been playing his career on “hard mode”, through literally zero fault of his own, and still finds a way to perform. Meanwhile so many others get to play on “easy mode”, consistently fail, and the outcome is getting big contracts and excuses made for them.

Gallant hasn't lasted 3 years at any stop yet he keeps getting rehired.
Maybe because he wins? His last decade of coaching he has paced for:

44-29-9....a 97 point pace. By season he has paced for:

91
103
86.....got fired
109
93
90....got fired
110
107....got fired

He might have a short shelf lifelife buy you can see why a team that wants a change would look to him.

I guess he's a victim of his own success. He leads his teams to the top but doesn't get them over the line. Then they get impatient even though they're ahead of schedule. 2 years ago the Rangers were rebuilding.

Think it's more like AV in his first season here, gets the "dead cat bounce" from pushing a team hard, then the team burns out on him. He's a real Dino, far more than Torts, got fired from Florida b/c he pushed to add veterans and wouldn't play kids.

When will people stop saying things like “[coach] got them to ____” and give them credit for things they obviously don’t deserve any credit for?

Coaches don’t get the team wins. Coaches are passengers.

The players win games and the coaches job is to keep things organized, babysit, and do as little damage as possible. Like an overpaid, undereducated, egotistical supervisor at a minimum wage job who doesn’t actually do any of the work, who is first in line to receive any possible praise but will throw his employees under the bus at the first possible opportunity.

Nothing is more pathetically dinosaurish than Tortorella's entitled whining about "youth."
