Ghost is a 3rd pair specialist. He cost a 2025 3rd at the TDL.
On Carolina, he's going to look good in a sheltered role.
He's playing 16:07 in the POs, ahead of Chatfield's 14:01.
Chatfield is an UDFA starting for the first time at 26 years old.

Not a big loss for the Flyers, they would have flipped him at the TDL in any case.
It's like getting excited about Gudas playing 17:34 for the Panthers as their 5th D-man.

The Flyers aren't struggling b/c they let role players leave, they're struggling b/c they spent a decade spinning their wheels and failing to find and develop top 9 forwards/top 4 defensemen starters.

Here's the interesting thing, Zona dumped Chychrun and Ghost at the TDL, along with Bjugstad, Ritchie and Stecher, you know, your basic tank move.
Before TDL: 62g 21-31-9 .411 of possible points
After TDL: 20g 7-8-5 .475 of possible points

3rd. Would've been 4th if they didn't lose a 3-1 third period lead in Game 82.

Shit you're right, my Friday night beers had me looking at wins instead of % and I ran with it.

There were some impactful changes to the roster though:
-Added Burakovsky and Bjorkstrand to the top six
-Claimed Tolvanen off waivers who promptly went on a scoring tear
-a full year of future superstar Beniers

Even signing Martin Jones contributed something, he was pretty good for a stretch and won them some games before predictably falling apart. All of these changes are Francis' doing, though.

As far as Hak goes I'm still not a believer, really...the shell does still happen sometimes and it makes me want to tear my hair out, but it seems to occur less frequently than it used to with Philly. His line combos have improved, although that may be the result of having a deeper forward group to play with. I suspect his Adams nomination comes from SEA having such a drastic turnaround and making the playoffs. But was more his doing, or Francis's? I consider him tolerable, for now.

Hakstol deserves a lot of credit.

This is still not that talented of a team.

Top 9 forwards: Gourde, Schwartz, Bjorkstrand, Eberle, Tolvanen, Wennberg, Beniers, Geekie, Tanev
D-men: Larsson, Dunn, Oleksiak, Borgen, Schultz, Soucy

Of this group, who would be on the 1st line or 1st pair of any other team in the top 8?

Some people confuse "deserves credit" with "he deserved it in the past, this current thing is a proof"
He did deserve it in the past, those Flyers teams were not playoff teams, yet he got them there twice, the first time riding a hot goalie, the second time with 4 different goalies.

People just didn't like the style of play he coached, but that was as much out of necessity as preference, those teams struggled to put together two top lines, had below average bottom six groups and below average defenses. They lacked the speed to play an up tempo style.
