Some teams just prefer to spend their money differently.

Sabres choose to spend 11 million on their #1 Dman.

Flyers choose to spend 10.9 million on guys not to play for them in Hayes, ADA, Lindblom and Peterson. I won't mention 6.25 for Ellis. Oops, I just did.

Flyers dumping salary isn't comparable, paying Sanheim $6.25M for 8 years is comparable.

Briere isn't responsible for contracts to AMac, Voracek, JVR, Hayes, TDA or Risto.
Getting rid of these contracts is the right move.
Sunk costs are sunk, you have to move on.

There is a tendency to forget that Highest Paid lists are cyclical. Recency defines them more than hierarchy among stars.

Why does Howie Roseman consistently beat other teams to their comparable extensions? Because the next guy often gets more.

How many RFA years are included in this deal?
Pure UFA contracts are higher than mixed contracts.

Torts and Benson lol

They wouldn’t have taken him in the second round.
Right, they wouldn't take Brink either. Too small. Or Barkey for that matter.

Yes, but that gap is rapidly shrinking on the high end.

How many true high-end stars have taken the full 8 year term without the oppression of a stagnant cap? If you want to tell me Dahlin has only done it for one year, that's fair. But I do think we should all be more confident in sustainability from someone of Dahlin's A++ talent level than most.

Brink will be on phantoms and Barkey will never play for flyers , so glad you agree.

Of course, at one point Seth Jones was considered a top talent. :(

You know it’s bad when you announce two 8.5 x 7 contracts and I’m laughing at the non-Goalie.

Of course, at one point Seth Jones was considered a top talent. :(

These things are fluid for sure. I don’t think Jones ever hit that level though.

Unless I’m missing someone, Dahlin is generally the most highly-regarded D prospect since Hedman. Depending on who you ask, maybe more so. Off the top of my head, I’m only positive that Potvin and Orr were more hyped as prospects. Doughty, Hedman, Pronger, and Berard are all arguable either way.
