Cechmanek was the best goalie we've had basically in 30-40 years. He was definitely weird and seemed like a jerk, but those Flyers teams he was on also choked offensively in the playoffs. The Ottawa series was a disaster, they couldn't put the puck past Patrick Lalime. They scored two goals in the entire series

Roman gave up 7 goals in 5 games

The team did better the next year with Esche in goal, and Cechmanek was below average in LA, and then out of the NHL after that.

25th best SV% out of the 29 goalies to play at least 40 games.

He definitely fell off at that point. It felt as if he just gave up and said F it after that.

Ok so this season was one of my favorites. Was the plan always to have Esche play though?

Not sure. They had 5 goalies play that season, though.

Esche - 40
Hackett - 27
Burke - 15
Niittymake - 3
Little - 1

The only game they won was game 1. 1-0. They got shutout the next 3 games and scored in game 5. Dude was definitely a flake but when you give up 7 goals in 5 games it’s hard to put the blame on him. The forwards definitely choked

Ugh, that series still haunts my dreams. I have never seen anything like that since or before.
