Right but the Pirates are a poverty franchise. My Flyers wouldn't be. Besides, this is Philly. The fans always come back. Look at the Sixers and Phillies.I'm a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. While it's pretty cool that they're finally looking like a competent and decent baseball team, they had stockpiled enough assets by like 2019 that they already could have opened their window, but they stayed in sell/stockpile mode until a few months ago. It f***ing sucked. I think I watched like 6 games last season. They're 16-8 and hosted the Dodgers last night in front of maybe 8,000 fans, a third of them in blue, because they more or less destroyed the little fanbase they had left after all this time. Home runs landing in an ocean of empty seats. It's bad. Rebuilds that take that long aren't worth it.
I want the Flyers to rebuild correctly and not jump the gun on adding any veteran talent. But I also don't want them doing what my baseball team did and "rebuilding" for nearly a decade. There needs to be a trajectory and something tangible added from time to time. Still stock up on 1st and 2nd round picks where you can, but I'm totally cool with 22 and 23 year olds, guys in their 2nd or 3rd or even 4th seasons who still have more to offer.
The Sixers would be my Flyers. You stockpile, you finally hit the big-time in Embiid, who puts people in the seats again. Then you strike with trades, FA, and continue to draft smartly.
I'm just telling you what I'd do, which would piss a lot of people off. Maybe including the NHL! The sixers pissed off the NBA after all. I'm not telling you what they "should" do, or what they will do, or what's better than what.
