Is there any chance this will change anytime soon? I mean, the ''yay, warriors''/''toughest cup to win''/''they are all beat up like pinyatas come SCF time and that's normal''. What would it require? Lawsuit? Probably not, as players are doing this voluntarily. This is goddamn stupid, but I don't see the way out. Where do you draw the line on the scale between a bruised knee and punctured lung / torn quad?
Nope, unless it's involuntary (ala the Lehner allegations earlier this year). There's a psychological dive into a competitor that shows that they'll do anything to win/succeed/be the best. It's likely a major reason that these guys are there in the first place as they cared more than anyone else to put in the work. There's also the matter of them being paid a substantial amount of money to play but that's essentially a non-factor here, IMO.
Could players be afraid of the repercussions that come from not suiting up whether it be from teammates by being called soft, management not offering the same contract that they may have if they played through it, or fans calling them soft or worse? Of course.
It's not an easy thing to come to but the only way it ends IMO is if it comes out that teams are forcing players to play with painkillers and all that and even then it's not stopping it.
