“Never interrupt your enemy when he’s making a mistake. It’s bad manners.”- Napoleon

The problem is the Flyers are the equivalent to an uncontacted tribe in the Amazon in this extended metaphor. Danny Briere is currently having his hands bitten by bullet ants as part of his rite of passage.

Are you now of the opinion that employing Fletcher is bad?
Fletcher did what Holmgren told him to do. And got the Flyers into the playoffs.
Holmgren hired him to be the anti-Hextall, that is, to listen to Holmgren.

Then when Holmgren saw the handwriting on the wall, he retired and left poor Chuck dangling in the wind.

We've already shown you all the ways this is BS.

Hey, if Homer was so influential, how come almost nothing has changed with him gone? That same committee forged by Fletcher is still the same.

So let's say this is true. Chuck then proceeded to do a terrible job when he was able to make his own decisions. Do you disagree?

Why can't you say Chuck was terrible. Flyers management is terrible.

Also I thought Clarke hired Chuck?

Holmgren fired Hextall, then hired CF. Clarke may have influenced the decision, but Holmgren was the decision-maker.

Holmgren could have started a rebuild in 2019 after a bad season and the core aging, instead he doubled down, while CF might have executed it better, the result would have been the same. They lacked the talent for a SC run, got lucky in 2019-20, then slipped back to mediocrity.

CF's problem was he couldn't start a rebuild (no one in the FO was willing to rubber stamp it), and he didn't have the talent to remain a contender. So he muddled through.

The best move he made was to hire Torts, who was willing to say the Emperor had no clothes. That got CF fired, Briere hired, and a commitment to rebuilding.
