Maybe, but "we don't need to tank we have enough talent" and "tanking doesn't work how many teams in the last 10 years win a cup via tanking?" are entirely different arguments.

Also, I can't disagree enough that Michkov is enough. This team plus a top 6 center, a top 4 damn, and better goaltending is not a Stanley Cup contender. That's just more of the Hextall era "well maybe we'll make the playoffs and win a round" style team we've seen since 2012.

More middling talent isn't the answer. More elite talent is.

Counterpoint: getting elite talent is hard.

I did not say we're not benefitting in general, just that situations like this make the flaws of point system so much more apparent.

Honestly, the standings don’t tend to change all that much with a 3-2-1 system.

Third periods would be played differently if teams knew they'd get three points for a regulation win.

Tough to see how would actually play out until there were real world impacts.
