Still baffling how many people awarded Calgary the win after that trade.

There’s still a decent chunk of people in the hockey world that don’t really understand age curves & contract values.

They just saw a top line forward & a top pair defensemen (at least up to the point of the trade) for a top line forward. Weegar is still holding up for now at least.

The league is going to give Celebrini to Chicago too, aren't they?

Honestly at this point I would low key love for the Hawks to tank for like 3 years and then win a cup before 2030 (and the Flyers obviously) just to spite all the dumb MFs that throw a tantrum about tanking not working.

Wait what?

Could he have not at least gotten into the USHL?
I think there are IIHF regulations, plus he won’t get into the NCAA anyways. So, this is really his only option until his contract expires. Would imagine the Coyotes would just sign him.

USHL doesn't have a ban on Russians/Belarussians. Likely something to do with midseason import limitations.

CIS is not high quality hockey. Relatively speaking. Even Junior A would have probably been a better option. Or just stay in Russia. Unless is just wants a NA education someway.

They don’t have a ban but they are still subject to adherence to contracts. I don’t know his whole situation but apparently he still has one that is active in the KHL, or at least everyone thinks he does. Not sure what grounds he was trying to get to the NCAA, but he played in the KHL last year, thus he was ruled ineligible, so he’s never going to play there. Whoever he trusts is telling him this is the highest spot available to him and going back to Russia doesn’t seem to be an option.

The skill level at CIS isn't great outside the top programs (not that they are great, just better), but the hockey is so much more organized. The guys just being older and more experienced gives it so much more flow.

I wouldn't want a prospect in either level but I feel like it would at least get you into better habits then Junior A. Junior A is just a mess at times.

Yeah neither is ideal, but playing against Junior aged players with more freedom to take chances would probably be better for his individual development than trying to play against mid-20 somethings with no pro upside. At least there is some track record of players going from the BCHL/AJHL to the NHL, albeit usually with an NCAA stop in between. The best players in CIS are usually CHL overagers that couldn't get pro contracts after Junior and tend to top at as ECHL players.

There are only two possible reasons for people liking 90's jerseys. It's either misguided nostalgia, or they just have bad taste.
