It's like arguing with deadhead.

-Multiple sources tell me it's not for betting on hockey
-Well, if it's not hockey, why is he suspended since CBA says you can bet on other sports
-You're assuming it's non-hockey betting and not something related to hockey betting

Well, given it's a 41 games suspension, he did something that pissed off the PTB.

Are they preparing for an appeal? How can they not say what he gambled on?

They're very carefully using the phrase "activities related to sports wagering," which isn't the same as saying he gambled on anything. There could be a lot of things I can't come up with here, because I don't wager on sports to begin with, but one thing suggested online that made sense to me is that he could have been feeding non-public information to friends and family members who were gambling on hockey. Even something simple like "Batherson really shouldn't have had that burrito yesterday, he's been queasy", or "Stützle's probably out tomorrow" could be enough info to cause someone to change their betting patterns, and done consistently enough, might cause the league to throw the book at someone.

Friedman makes it sound like Pinto appreciates that Ottawa management kept this quiet as long as possible, and once he's able to sign he will do them a solid and sign a cheap one year deal.

Maybe they know he did it and he admitted it, but they just don't have any physical (electronic?) proof?
It sounds like the NHL has some third party keep track of the accounts, the third party group noticed some suspicious activity on his United States based account and they then alerted the NHL

If Ottawa wants to compete this season, they need to add a center, Norris has been plagued by shoulder injuries and with Pinto out for half a season (and he's not a finished product, how good will he be when he returns?) they're in a tough spot. Greig is off to a good start, but Chartier is a scrub.

They also need a goalie, Forsberg and Kopisalo aren't getting the job done.

maybe they had a potential deal in place after the ottawa/philly game and were just waiting on word about the pinto suspension (classic us <3) and frost was being kept out of the lineup for that. now at least we know the time table for when Frost plays again and its only 39 games to wait for the senators those lucky dogs

That is gold.

Lebrun saying that there was a 3rd party involved. League started investigating in early summer. Sens found out near training camp opening.

Dancing around things because he said due to confidentiality, they don't want to "out" what he did.

Said multiple times Pinto didn't bet on hockey, but a 3rd party was involved. So seems like he funneled into to someone who did bet.

Sens imploding: 6 pts

Flyers playing great: 9pts
Sens, zero cap room, Korpisalo and Forsberg in goal, Chabot injured, Brannstrom injured, Norris with questionable shoulder.
Good example of a team that ended their rebuild two years early.

Why would the NHL have to say anything? They are a private organization.

Shane Pinto could gladly say whatever it was but he's chosen not to. The NHLPA isn't pushing the issue either. So figure whatever he did wasn't good.

Gee, I wonder.
