It has been known among TO hockey guys that Zach has 5.5M for 6-7 years from Oilers little birdie from sometime now .. da only issue left is does someone else offer more which is why CJ left open 5.5M to 6M .. if Leafs are to win it has to be front loaded 4.5M AAV for 8 years .. with no $$$ coming into Leaf coffers again for a 2nd straight year here in June when bank is supposed to happen da Leafs are gonna have a hard time getting over it ..
Unsubstantiated rumor that is likely bullshit. Tampering would cost them a serious fine and likely a 1st. If they did it, it wouldnt come out.

the little hockey birdie that flies around my area told me the Oilers wouldn't touch Hey-Man with a 10 foot pole because they don't need another contract like the one they gave Lucic on there books

my little hockey birdie told me the Oilers name is only being floated because they have some cap space and a spot in there top 6 open but the birdie also said McD doesn't need a puck retriever , he needs a skilled winger who can convert the chances he creates and they view Hey-Man as a softer Kassian

my little birdie was very chatty but i got hungry so i threw him on the bbq , he was delicious

Da kids have been talking about it for some time now online video game chats .. Zach is a good kid and wants to stay here.. his heart is here .. but business is business .. it is with Leafs they know what it is gonna take .. it becomes a business call for Leafs

i wish i was young enough to be still hanging around my parents basement but i'm decades too old for that unfortunately

and my birdie was very connected to all the other little NHL birdies

Everyone so ready to be done with Hyman but the team gets worse instantly the moment he leaves. Playoff worse, which is even worse as reg season clearly irrelevant. If they can replace him for half the money I'm all for it.

I lost real contact with most of my hockey buddies due to COVID and no one wants to talk about stuff over da phone .. but I still have 1 kid who is trying to make show .. he is still friends with a few of Leaf guys when he played in org and before org .. in minors pay is pretty bad so many of these kids still live in basements

Pretty clear Hyman was battling through injuries as well. His role and play style is limited to the players he's retrieving pucks for. I don't find much use at all ragging on Hyman's production. Bang for buck wise he definitely provided more value than 34 and 16.
Oh look now he's retrieving pucks for actual playoff superstars and he's got some of the best playoff numbers around the last couple seasons.

Yet people still will blame everything but the core.

I've got some news for you, the board has done a 180 on just about every player on the team outside of Spezza. Hyman is not special.
Yeah turned out he was pretty special

What an awesome reread this thread turned out to be LOL

I can’t read this because I refuse to subscribe to tripe, Hyman was the heart and soul of the Leafs, but Boy Wonder didn’t appreciate hard work that wasn’t flashy so he let him go, I hope he wins a cup snd I hope he brings said cup to Toronto snd rubs it in the Leafs faces……..

Heart and soul guy walks for nothing. Explain to me how things will be better next year again?

This year looks like “peak” Maple Leafs and it gets uglier from here....
This organization is a f**king joke, full stop. I hope Zack eins a cup and is thankful he got the f**k out if here……

...I didn't say Hyman wasn't special, I said the idea of the forum changing their opinion about him once it was clear he was leaving the team wasn't special, it happens all the time. Your reading comprehension sucks.

He's a good player and a great person.

But it's a lot easier to stomach his flaws at 2.25M than 5-6M. He's been irrelevant in multiple playoff series, injury-prone, and is going to exit his prime soon due to his playstyle.
He’s proved he’s worth every penny…….

I'm happy for him
Me too, this myst be like what it feels like to get out of a disfunctional relationship………

Yeah and I was referring to the group of us who didn't change our opinion at all when he did leave town or had an "unproductive" series against Montreal.

Waiting for certain posters to come in here and lament giving up on Hyman despite not producing in the playoffs here and then going into the Marner thread asking to give him away

Who's the one making $11M there genius? Who was the one making $2.5M in their time with the Leafs?

The problem very obviously turned out to be the core, not the guy who was busting his ass fighting in corners every night to get them the puck.

I don't think anyone wants to give Marner away. He still has value, in the regular season at least. He can't be re-signed at his current salary though, it just doesn't work here.
