I don't follow the prospects closely.

The first time I ever see any of them play usually is when they make the NHL. So I rely heavily on prospect reports and statistics. And there wasn't a single shred of evidence that I saw in all those reports and stats I read that said this kid was gonna be any better than a third line centre.

What none of them said was that he is one already.

In his short time on this team Minten has shown to be a more capable centre than Domi has his entire tenure on the Leafs. I really hope the intention isn't to send Minten back down again once the rest of the team is healthy. They'd be better off just waiving Domi and freeing up the cap space for a deadline acquisition.

The best thing is they won't need to trade for a 3C.

That position has already been filled. There's a lot to like about Minten's game that leads me to believe he's more than qualified for the role. He's physical, can transport the puck up ice effectively, and seems to be reasonably effective at faceoffs.

Minten's also scored a lot more goals than Domi has this year already too.

It's actually great since Domi has looked best on Matthews wing.

Whether we run 3 equal lines or Nylander with Matthews idk.

This.

Domi fitting as a centre on a good team is just too much of an awkward fit. He's not good enough defensively.

Put Domi with Matthews and Knies -- somebody that has almost as much creativity as Marner, for a fraction of the price.

Keep McMann-Tavares-Marner together.. or maybe Pacioretty finds his way into McMann's spot.

Put Minten with Nylander... Willy creates his own magic to a much greater extent than anyone on the Leafs. Having a "non-Matthews/Tavares" centre isn't going to hurt him, and may just help Minten's offensive game flourish considering he's going to have a linemate like Willy, but an absolutely impossible matchup for opposing teams.

As for the winger, maybe it's Pacioretty, I don't think it's Robertson. McMann's an obvious fit if not with Tavares.

I’ll be pretty disappointed if the Leafs move Domi back to 3C, considering how much better he performs on the wing and how solid Minten is at center. I really like your proposed lines: Knies-Matthews-Domi, McMann-Tavares-Marner, and I'd go with a third line of Robertson-Minten-Nylander.

If they’re set on keeping Matthews and Nylander together, a third line of Robertson-Minten-Domi could work, but your setup is definitely my top choice by a wide margin.

Knies-Matthews-Domi
Mcmann-Tavares-Marner
Pacioretty-Minten-Nylander
Dewar-McBain-Lorentz

Ideally, we move on from Kampf and Robertson and with the rumors of the Leafs interested in McBain, he'd be the perfect 3rd or 4th line center for this team come playoff time.

Robertson and Domi for Matthews linemates.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Knies/Minten/Nylander line. The two kids with Willy, and it gives Willy at least a bit of talent to work with

Pacioretty-Matthews-Domi
McMann-Tavares-Marner
Knies-Minten-Nylander

No.

Domi is at his best in open ice... matthews at his best in being the #2 forechecker, domi and matthews together would be best served by a primary forechecker like Knies.

I'm a big fan of Minten. But, the test isn't whether he's capable of playing 3C, he's proved he can.
The test is whether he can play 3C on a consistent, night after night basis.
He's a rookie. He's going to have his ups and downs. It won't be until few years hes going to run his own line

He's been better than expected and has a very low risk, clean game. His touch around the net and safe play in transition have stood out.

I still feel he needs to spend most of this season developing in the AHL. Still some timidness and a lot of rawness to his game. Hard to rely on a rookie in a 3C role who is completely unaccustomed to a full pro season schedule. Boston is learning this with Poitras who IMO was rushed a bit, and now yo-yo'd.

There's no rush to send him down and he's adding value to the team. But once we're healthy, i'd let him cook more. He's looking like a full-timer by next fall.

He’s very mature for his age. His detail is exceptional for his age.
-Taking the body (7 hits)
-Not turning the puck over in neutral zone.
-Chiping pucks
-Dzone coverage and being there for outlet passes and grabbing loose pucks.
-Drives the net

I mean this with all respect to Fraser. He HAS to play this way - as his natural talent and tool box is limited.

He needs more time to cook in the minors despite his current decent play. He is not the 3C on a Championship team.

Brad needs to get a legit 3C.

How crazy is it that a 20 year old is our best bottom 6 forward.

I have to say I did not expect this at all and thought he would not be that great. Happy to be proved wrong
