Did you listen to Russo's podcast the other day? Said he's been talking to people inside the organization, and he basically confirmed that Fiala will be traded in the offseason. Also said he wouldn't go public with this if he wasn't sure.

He thinks Fleury will be re-signed, if Fleury wants to do it. Then Talbot will be traded, and they'll sign a 1,5M backup.

A pretty easy puzzle to put together when Guerin filed for arbitration.

This would be a good game to rest someone like Spurgeon or Brodin
thats what i was thinking. easier opponents should allow both to come out even. Benn and Goose could play for them. wouldnt be fun to watch but if we are working on resting players we have the depth.

This is 2 consecutive games now though. He didn't play vs the Avs either. The D played well, so they're going with the same D lineup.
I would not be shocked to see it only 2 games then but who knows.

He’s lucky Fiala didn’t just take the 2-year ruling straight to UFA. Would think he’d have a little less trade value without that RFA status (although I assume an extension would be agreed upon by the team trading for him).

Fiala has made it seem like he wants to be here long-term. Would have been nice if the team went long-term when they were deciding between that or a bridge deal a few years ago, could have gotten a steal.

I wonder where this org would be at right now if Fenton had any semblance of a personality.

I don’t trust Guerin....I guess at this point I tolerate him. If he dumps Fiala and then we have to watch Fiala put up multiple 100pt seasons because his new team didn’t shit all over him I will never let it go. In fact just f*** Bill Guerin in the face with a hot poker. There I said it. Fiala is the 2nd most talented player this team has ever had and Billy G is gonna piss that away because he’s a f***ing moron who holds little grudges.

I'd like to listen, do you know what day it was posted and which pod? The Athletic one or Talk North?

If I was Fiala, I'd probably be a little petty about it, and not be willing to discuss extensions with new teams, just to tank my trade value a little bit.

I’m okay with where Guerin has gotten the team at this point & I really liked his TDL acquisitions. However, there was an easy path for keeping Dumba & Fiala on this team for at least another season. It would’ve been wise to focus on making that a priority since it seems like that would’ve given us the best chance in this 2-year window that magically opened up. I’ll wait to see what the return is on Fiala though, but I really think he should’ve focused on moving Dumba to Philly if there was an opportunity to.

If I was Fiala, I'd probably be a little petty about it, and not be willing to discuss extensions with new teams, just to tank my trade value a little bit.
Yeah I’d be petty if I was him, Guerin has really mis-managed Fiala & Evason has to an extent too. It’s obviously paid off this season, but Fiala seems to get treated unreasonably more harshly than other players (at least from an outside perspective).

You know we give you a lot of shit on here for your Zucc obsession, but you were right on him & it’s clear you’re paying attention to the team if you’re listening to these podcasts. Appreciate you linking that & sorry about some of the undeserved crap that gets thrown your way (although you still deserve it sometimes
).

Fiala is having the best year of his career at 26yrso. Just because Zucc is setting career highs at 34 doesn't mean everyone does. "Chances are"... if he's not having a 100pt year this year or next, he won't ever... so don't "expect" he'll suddenly put up multiple of them after he's gone.

As for 2nd most talented? Suter and Gaborik both were better.

Technically...
Dany Heatley and Fleury might qualify as well. Depending on what you mean by "talented players" on the team.

I mean most talented while they were here. Fleury and Heatley clearly are/were not in their primes. (otherwise Staal would also qualify as better)

Oh no, we are in top 10 in Pts per game, have a top 3 prospect pool, have 3 picks in the top 90 in the upcoming draft and a locker room that seems to be really close and tight. Ooh noo...

I'm not actually sure that we do have a top 3 prospect pool, and I think a lot of teams have at least 3 picks in the top 90, that's actually a pretty standard amount of top 90 picks to have. Most teams are given that by default.

I might also argue that Havlat was at least as skilled, though extremely disengaged by the time he got to the Wild. I'd definitely take Fiala over him, though, just based on effort alone. I guess that sort of defeats the point of my own post. Should I hit Post reply anyway? Probably not, but it's so big and blue. and I really like pushing buttons...
