People need to stop with the disrespectful take that "Alex Stalock isn't an NHL quality goalie". Guy is playing lights out this year for the role he has.
For goalies with 10+ starts he is....

34th in wins
33rd in sv %
25th in gaa

No idea on goalie advanced stats....

He's been fine but I mean I wouldn't say he's been lights out. I like him, he's a fun goalie to watch but definitely not the long term answer to either of the spots on the big team.

Hence lights out for his role...ie backup. Not a #1.

So strictly by numbers, he is the 3rd best backup in the league, no?

Ryan Suzuki is averaging 2 points per game since his trade to Saginaw. Playing with Perfetti has obviously agreed with him. Not sure if it’s super encouraging, but he’ll definitely tear up the OHL next year in his d+2. I’m still pretty high on the player. Not high enough for a 1 for 1 for Brodin, but if he was part of the package I wouldn’t lose sleep.

I still think any deal involving a prospect of that caliber would need a late 1st coming back for me to really be satisfied. That’s a lot of risk to be taking, much more than the Granlund trade.

For funzies... Dubynk at the same 10 starts minimum...

tied 45th in wins
56th in sv%
57th in gaa

This is out of 61 goalies btw. So yeah stalock is less of a problem then Duby for sure.

That's like saying the tree house in the back yard that's on fire is less of a problem than your house that's on fire.

There has been way too many games this year when both Dub (9 in 21 starts) and Stalock (9 in 22 starts) have given up 4+ goals. The Wild might win 1 in 10 games when giving up 4+ goals.

Yeah I saw this play out in front of me when the flames came to town a couple weeks ago. We had 1 goal leads like 2 or 3 times if I recall and we just kept letting them back in the game. Stalock actually played well in the shootout but still we lost 5-4.

Standing in the backyard, watching the treehouse burn against the backdrop of the house that has been engulfed in flames for two years: "f***in' piece of shit treehouse."

Very True. There is a lot of risk with it. I think it’s harder to stomach because Brodin is so good. I could do a 2nd coming back, but I understand wanting a 1st. Suzuki himself was a really, really late 1st.

Color me skeptical of any prospect that:

1.) fell from the middle of the 1st to the bottom
2.) has generally been billed as pure skill and offense, but has leveled off at around a PPG in his third OHL season
3.) has his production suddenly take off when he starts playing with a guy that's slated to go in the top-1o in this year's draft

I'm sure he's still got a high ceiling, but the realistic floor on Suzuki still seems very low to me. Maybe it's just the eye injury and it'll work itself out, but this stinks of Zack Phillips.

There’s risk with all prospects/picks. I don’t think your Skepticism is unwarranted. I will say though, Zach Phillips could barely skate.

Yeah and I think there were more red flags with him than there are with Suzuki. That Saint John team he was on with Coyle was nuts. I just tend to relate everything to Wild players/prospects.

But the treehouse burning would be wayyyy less of a problem in this scenario. There is much more investment in the house.

He's played all of 30 games of professional hockey. He kinda has forced his way into the lineup after being a scratch the first 15 games of the season. He's also not on a 4th line of Laimbas/McLeod, but has Duhaime/Sokolov as his wings. It's a line meant to play hockey not just grind and punch faces.

That doesn’t mesh well with the Boudreau vibe. Someone’s gonna have to do something.

If you can skate really well, there’s a very decent chance you’ll make it to the NHL at some point in some capacity. He may very well max out as a 3C level player, but skating alone is enough to get a guy a chance these days. The game is dominated by guys who can skate.

Obviously. Boudreau just happens to be one of the few coaches with four of them.
That would be more because of the players on the roster than anything else.

He sure didn't have 4 grind lines in Washington.

That's why he's under his 3rd gm here... need to get better players that don't need to grind it out to succeed as players.

Yes and no. It’s a mix. His game plan and coaching style requires everyone to grind to an extent. Comparing him to some other coaches, his style is much more focused on down low.

But yeah, maybe it would loosen up if we had players who could play a skill game. Or maybe those players would get benched and scratched until they learn to play his game like Fiala and Donato. Who’s to say.

why get better players when they're going to take the backseat to Parise and Staal as long as BB is around?
