MN 5v5 actually has the:
-3rd lowest (1.94) xga/60
-14th in (10.78) HDCA/60.
-Worst (3.59) HDGA/60. Only AZ is within a goal of that. 19 teams are more than 2g better than that.

You mean right here where Byfield's stick is neither on the ice nor in the passing lane before Zuccarello redirects it?

55 is on that. Look where the puck and sticks are in relation to the hash marks, not the angle of the pic.

I've watched the entire video enough, it's very clear Byfield wasn't going to intercept that

It's just another failed crossice pass on the PP if Zucc doesn't lift it.

If it was Rossi in Zucc's spot it would be a great little touch by the rookie showing he belongs in the NHL.

No it isn't. Byfield isn't getting that.

Here is a different angle. Puck is just hitting Zucc's stick.

That is a routine play for a high school kid. 55's positioning is correct to cut the cross-ice pass, eyes on the puck, sick in the lane.

That angle was in the video I watched several times, Byfield was not getting that puck

By the time he even reacted it was already in front of Kaprizov

The puck is just off Boldy's stick. If you remove Zucc from this pic that pass gets cutoff every time.

Boldy's pass is to Zucc in the bumper, not cross ice to Kap.

It's a set play. Designed so the bumper (Zucc in this case) can either redirect the pass on net/JEE, catch it and dump it back out to the point, let it go if the lane is open, or do what he did. We've seen MN do all of these things with a similar situations.

I will say: if you’re going to tank, there’s less enjoyable ways to do it than playing in a bunch of 7-6 games.

Should this go in the positivity thread?

Or as MN's linkedin profile now reads:
The '22-'23 Wild team is doing things that haven't been seen in the NHL in over 30 years, and setting statewide records for all professional hockey teams.

So , still have a gaping hole between Zucc and Kap

Instead of Fiala on an Island we have Boldy on an Island

We somehow went from below league average goaltending to actually breaking records for allowing goals and we have two goal tenders sporting sv% of something less than .900

We have Tyson Jost and Sam Steel flailing around providing nothing as they always have yet being gifted minutes in every top 9 scenario imaginable

And we have Rossi who showed what he’s best at during the preseason and then was immediately plugged into a 4th line no minutes grinder role and then sent to the press box after 20 shifts in 2 games.

We have Addison who is single handedly fixing the PP and holding down the fort in the rest of his minutes which only makes me think of watching Jordie Benn last year and all his grit and character

When does someone get held accountable for any of this disaster???

I know +/- is a meh stat, but when are we gonna talk about:

Kaprizov -8
Zuccarello -7
Brodin -6
Hartman -5
Dumba -3

Who gives a shit if Rossi plays or doesn’t play or gets sent down to Iowa. Our top line and top pair are not playing defense. Our best goaltender stats-wise has a .860 sv%. Those are the real issues with the team.

They aren't just not playing defense they aren't scoring at even strength. Even Kap's non-ppg last night was in a delayed penalty 6v5 situation.

I think Rossi and the team's overall performance are probably separate topics in a lot of ways. Our goaltending situation, which has no straightforward fix, undercuts any possibility of the team being competitive. There's a lot wrong with the skaters too, but you could fix most of that and still be dropping games because Fleury/Gus are only 50/50 on any kind of high-danger chance.

Alternating Rossi between the 4th line and the press box isn't annoying because it'll fix any of that. It's annoying because it a.) doesn't bode well for their plans to transition him to the NHL, and b.) removes one of the things that can still be fun when watching a bad team, which is seeing what the younger players can do.

I'm not all that worried about, or even annoyed by, it yet, but they are going to have to come up with a plan that isn't 4th line/scratch. And with the number of larger fires that coaches and management have to put out right now, there's a non-zero danger of this situation going on longer than it should.

Speaking of 6v5 situations, did anyone see how that too many men penalty happened? Did Gus forget to go to the bench? Did they put 7 skaters on the ice? The TV camera was basically no help.

It was 4 on 4, we drew the call, FG got off and we played 5v4. 5 seconds later, someone just hopped the bench not realizing that we still had a guy in the box. It was somewhat understandable but yet another example of guys not using their brains.

I think there is a disconnect between the GM and coach with the younger guys and if they are ready for the NHL or not. I'm guessing that Evason doesn't think Rossi this year or Addison last season are ready for the NHL and needed more AHL seasoning time.

Evason was a decent AHL coach and has coached/developed a fair number of quality/skilled prospects. NSH has been very good with their development pipeline.

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification!

From Joe Smith's gamer from last night:

"
With all the anxiety and stress, Evason’s advice to his team for Tuesday’s off day was “get the hell away from hockey.”
"

Ah yes, our 69% PK definitely doesn't need the work, and after this HUGE 3-game grind at home, we deserve a day off after a biblically bad start to the season and setting records for goals against. f***ing ridiculous how little Dean does, he's a f***ing helicopter coach.
