If Jiricek sucks, then giving up anything is a bad deal.

If he doesn't, then it sounds like maybe haggling over a 2nd rounder too much (a 1st rounder of some kind was all but guaranteed).

He may not be known for it yet, but his track record says he should be, and maybe the year he is having in Columbus finally gets him the recognition for the great job he does with young players. There's a long list of players in their early 20s that were were/are productive under Dean. I like how you say I don't know what I'm talking about when I described what I'm talking about. Since you don't address my reasoning, it's best for us to move on.

Russo yesterday posted that Bracket thinks Jiricek would go to-10 in a re-draft. It's a delusional take, but it aligns with why they were willing to give up what they did. Maybe the simple reason why it doesn't make sense is because management doesn't have it.

I didn't say you don't know what you're talking about - I asked what you're talking about. How does trading assets we don't really need to take a small gamble on a big RHD with a nice resume not make sense?

Judd Bracket has a delusional take - but some dude on the internet knows what hes talking about?

I can only assume this is in response to SoH

Even Jiricek turns into a good, not great player I don't think Columbus regrets this. They got like a whole draft class of picks. Only way they regret it is if he turns into a star, which is still possible of course.

Or if they don't hit on those picks.

draft picks are great but you actually have to do something with them.

Like what the Wild just did? 2 of the picks that went to CBJ were originally from teams other than the Wild
I am (was?) A huge fan of Jiri...thought he would be a 1 RD for CBJ, he needed and was asked to gain muscle and strength...he did not for 2 years...if Minny can get him to buy in to it, great on them...

I heard a similar lack of progression on his skating as well. I was hoping Wild skating coach Andy Ness would work some magic on him. It may not matter if the player isn't committed to it. Although Guerin convinced Gustavsson to come into camp in shape. Gus did, and is reaping the rewards.

The Wild are a tight knit team, and it's showing on the ice. This might be the change of scenery he needs. For whatever reason it seemed like he was checked out of Columbus long before this trade.
