At the time his new contract was given it was paying for potential - an 8.5 mil over 8 years gamble. Cause his play up to last season and even the first 4-5 games this season didn't come close to warranting that big a pay increase. It's now working out great with Serge and he's playing at a level he'd not previously reached, but there's maximum risk awarding contracts like that. I'm glad they were right in Serge's case, we'll see if Cirelli elevates his game to his new contract.Sorry but don't try to frame this as him not being worthy of that kind of money or paying for potential. These are his salary/position/points comps for this season alone, and you can do last year and see similar. We didn't "pay now for his potential", hes f***ing good right now. He plays big minutes right now. He puts up points right now.
But also he turns the puck over once in a while...
I love how you followed up this point with a comparison to the Paul contract, who somehow got over 3 million for never having more than 16 goals. Hilarious that you're good with a seven year deal for a 27 year old like that but not the top four, 20 plus minute a night under 25 defenseman. At the time his new contract was given it was paying for potential - an 8.5 mil over 8 years gamble. I didn't mind Nick Paul's 7 year extension, because he played great BEFORE we signed him to that long of a deal. Same with Cernak.
You should love it, because it's an obvious example of a safer bet.I love how you followed up this point with a comparison to the Paul contract, who somehow got over 3 million for never having more than 16 goals. Just two games ago:But also he turns the puck over once in a while...
Someone from this board made it and allowed me to use it lol Thanks again! He's taking the next step he needs to take. Hopefully he keeps it up.
Friendly reminder that he's still only 24 years old.
Your avatar is even more relevant now.
Do you also hate Hedman for turning the puck over repeatedly while being the last man at the point in the offensive zone, or only Sergachev gets that treatment ?I both love and hate Serg. He can be so dominant and exciting and then turn it over due to the same risky plays that make him so exciting and cost us a game.
”What about that other player”Do you also hate Hedman for turning the puck over repeatedly while being the last man at the point in the offensive zone, or only Sergachev gets that treatment ?
“Whattaboutism” for me, has always been a nexus to the fact that serge got an unequal amount of criticism due to the HF hivemind. I’ve been here a long time, and have seen many whipping boys, and it’s always the same group think mentality that pervades the community with little actual evidence (and a whole lot of overlooking others faults) and it’s exhausting to read.”What about that other player”
Oh absolutely - hate is a strong word so I’ll take that back - Heddy makes me mad with those boneheaded plays as well and those have been very visible this year. However I feel Hedman has been much steadier in our own end for some years now, which leads me to hope that this year is just an exception.
I think time will tell and like I said, I’m confident Sergy is trending the right direction in terms of risk vs. safe.
You already know what I'm going to say don't you?“Whattaboutism” for me, has always been a nexus to the fact that serge got an unequal amount of criticism due to the HF hivemind. I do, and I love you too.You already know what I'm going to say don't you?

Trending? In the right direction? He’s a giant mobile PPG D at 24… Risk/reward? The player he was traded for was a noted problem on your franchise at the time of the trade. Trade of the decade imo.”What about that other player”

I guess you must be right, he’s got nothing left to learn and has already reached his full potential then.Trending? In the right direction? He’s a giant mobile PPG D at 24… Risk/reward? I can understand that.I guess you must be right, he’s got nothing left to learn and has already reached his full potential then.
Edit: Who said anything about Drouin or the trade? Sergachev is already an excellent offensive dman, that is not the question…however perhaps we (read, I) just have to accept that what you see is what you get on the defensive side of things.
Ha, you might as well be asking for the nuclear codes.Injury updates?
