he really fell off fast. hasn't played 140+ games in a season since 2018 and he's still under contract until 2030

he's obviously still a HOF'er even if he retired today, but it could be painful watching him play until his contract is up just so he can get paid

It's sad, similar to Griffey Jr, but probably even worse. For a while there it looked like he might be able to push towards 700+ homers, now barring a miracle, that is very unlikely

Trout makes Griffey look like Lou Gehrig.

I'd be shocked if Trout makes it to 500 HR. At this point, I'd almost be surprised to see him reach 400.

Time for Trout to switch to DH, he can’t play the field no longer.
I agree, but it's with the knowledge that he has the talent and tools to play the field, and fielding won't be the key driver of future injury risk for Trout. It's simply that Trout has to hit and run the bases, that can't be avoided, so he needs to give up fielding simply to reduce his wear and tear and exposure to risk.

His value is in his bat - giving up fielding isn't a big deal. He'll hate it, but the Angels need to force the issue and tell him he's never playing the field again, so he can either retire now or accept it.

its worse. trout hasn't played close to a full season since 2016. even griffey played more than that

Imagine being an Angels fan...

With Trout's career in the gutter now, he's one of the biggest What If's in the sport ever......you don't even have anything to show for it as a team/org. Zero playoff success in his era, just failure and pain. And there's no light at the end of the tunnell, just a barren wasteland......

Time for Trout to switch to DH, he can’t play the field no longer.

He'll probably get injured swinging and/or running the bases too. He's gonna have to do the Giancarlo stanton run @ 30% speed/effort with no sliding.

angels stuck with rendon until 2026 and trout until 2030.

schaunel, neto, rengifo and ward are solid bats in that lineup. it's too bad the money allocated to rendon and trout could have been spent on 2-3 more bats and a few pitchers.

once the angels are done with those 2 guys will ownership be afraid to sign free agents to long contracts?

He didn't fall off. He got f***ing injured.

This is as weak a post as the fella that thinks he would be healthy if he moved to a corner outfield spot.

yeah.....so he's fallen off

his best bet to stay healthy at this point is becoming a full time DH

I don't disagree that he should end being a DH. It's a shame more than anything. You look at the guy and he's built like a tank and has every attribute known to man. Yet he's constantly dinged up.

He will get to 500 HR but he should get to 800 in reality.

Imagine if the front office could have surrounded him with any sort of help.

Imagine Trout and Ohtani playing together. God damn.
Imagine if the asshat owner didn’t demand the previous GM sign Rendon and then not let the current GM go over the tax.

I don’t even consider Trout or Rendon part of the team anymore, they could cut either player and I wouldn’t give a f***. I certainly hope they aren’t planning on building next years team around either of those 2 being a part of it. Too bad they’re still a significant part of the payroll though

You sound like you have vitriol toward Mike Trout which I just can't understand, Rendon obviously understand, he's a twat and quitter who didn't do anything for the franchise.

Mike Trout has earned the right to basically do whatever he wants in Anaheim afaic.

I don’t have vitriol towards Mike Trout the reality just is that a guy earning $40 million a year who is rarely on the field is a liability for a team working with a limited internal budget whose owner is scaling back payroll even further. Same reason I had no interest in giving Ohtani the big contract I knew he was going to get, he’s much more reliable than Trout at the stage, yes, but still not confident he’ll live up to it completely and it doesn’t work for the payroll structure of this team

What do you want Trout to do? It's not like he's dogging it like Rendon or trying to get injured. Dude played hard and at an all-time elite level for 10 years and even the more recent years where he's been injured he still plays at a super high level.

Also, not that it really matters that much but he makes like $36 mil a year, not $40 mil. You should just be grateful he's decided to be an Angel for life. He's one of the greatest all time and it's not like his salary is stopping the team from doing anything.

Rendon is the anchor and everyone knows it. I'm sure it just seems meaningless to even discuss it but he actually makes more than Trout. That's how crazy it is.

Nothing, all I said is the team shouldn’t count on his production, but I fear they will continue to do so

Ya, I'm just saying I don't think the team is in a position where counting on Trout's production one way or the other makes any difference whatsoever.
