Richter's legacy has been pretty much whitewashed in recent years because he always has to compare to Lundqvist (and that's a comparison he always loses) and any praise of Richter is seen as an insult against Hank for some weird reason.

Maybe it's just some weird default counter defense of the fact Lundqvist will retire cupless

I think its been whitewashed because most posters here dont rememeber him, bc they became fans after that time period and that they were spoiled with Lundqvist.

People have to calm down and realize that we have been very fortunate in finding goalies since the early 80's and need to try not to react that way. When we talk about how great one player is its not a slight to anyone its praising one of our ranger greats, not dissing Lundvist. One has nothing to do with the other.

Richter is my favorite player of all time. But if im going to take a goalie to create an all time rangers team, Richter is my backup and Lundqvist is my starter.

When I am up late at night, like 2 AM, I always watch some old Rangers playoff games and smoke and just let the nostalgia flow. It would be cool if we could get together on discord or something and watch some old Ranger playoff games together. I have my own discord already set up if anyone is interested.

It’s funny that these clips show Brian Leetch making multiple ridiculously boneheaded plays to lead to these chances.

Yeah he was only +19 with 34 points and won the Conn Smythe Trophy. The greatest performance by a Defenseman in NHL playoff history.

What a bonehead.

Richter is my favorite player, but I cannot be convinced he was better than Lundqvist, by any metric.

Watch Game 6, 1994 Rangers vs Devils. The Messier guarantee game. Richter played out of his mind. I'm not convinced in any way Lundqvist wins the Rangers that Cup in 1994.

Lundqvist had the better career but Richter at his peak was the greatest Rangers goalie ever. Lundqvist could never put up 4 rounds of great goaltending. He'd be unstoppable one series, and average the next. And he'd let in stinkers at the absolute worst of times.

If Lundqvist played well against Tampa in 2015 that Rangers team easily makes the Final, but he had a bad series and they lost. Not all his fault obviously but he didn't play well.

They got shutout on home ice in Games 5 and 7 though I seem to recall the OT winner against Kucherov in Game 3 was just a lame wrist shot from like the blue line
