I'm happy that Richards is going to get some of his money, he didn't deserve to lose it all but seriously what an embarrassing way to likely end your career.

I don't know if I'll ever see a player in any sport fall so far so quickly.

Lamar Odom.

Wow, that is a very favorable settlement, especially when compared to the buyout alternative. At least they made the best out of that situation.

That's the last piece of the puzzle, other than knowing exactly what Richards were doing which I doubt we'll ever know. Glad to finally close this chapter, for good this time. Wish him the best.

Wow, that is a very favorable settlement, especially when compared to the buyout alternative. At least they made the best out of that situation.

Both sides did the right thing and both can now move on. Bob McKenzie said that there are several teams interested in MR and the issue was never his play, only the contract. He said that they are waiting for the some 'unresolved' issues with the NHL before they can move on to a contract offer, said no shortage of interested teams but he surmised the 'unresolved' issues were tied to a possible suspension and that the NHL might be waiting on the outcome of the 12/8 trial to close the issue out.

But good for him to be back in the NHL again and most likley on a playoff bound team, he's a warrior and as Bobby mac pointed out, he a proven winner and that kind of leadership under pressure is what some teams who can't get to the next level need for a deep post season run.

Yeah... well... we'll see about that.

Bob was quoting Mike's agent for all that information. I could see a team take a chance with him on a very cheap contract I suppose. But I guess from Mike's point of view he still needs to resolve any potential issues with traveling across boarders does he not? I understood that to be very difficult between USA/Canada when drugs are concerned.

Just like his agent said there were supposedly a dozen teams interested in trading for Richards. When in reality it was two bad teams looking to get a couple of young assets from the Kings.

Having watched this guy play the last two seasons, his play would have to do a complete 180 for him to be an NHL player again, he was abysmal in 13-14 and 14-15.

genralfanager is updated and has it broken down into recapture and settlement very nicely

A hand clap to that site

Hell yeah. We still got 2.4 million of
salary cap space.

Is that with King on IR?

Corrected to include Forbort and exclude McBain.

We have $2.148 MM available in cap space. King is on IR but included because he is coming back (hopefully by January). GeneralFanager.com has the correct amounts but added the cap space incorrectly, excluding $90,000 even for some reason.

In any event, we have a little over $2.1 million to play with at the trade deadline, assuming nothing else takes place between now and February.

The sad part is his agent put out a press release declaring Mike a free agent and ready to sign with another team. As though there are no underlying issues with Mike that need to be dealt with and the last 2 years were just bad luck or something.

Would love to use that to towards defensive help.
Ellis would be awesome. Lewis + 4th?

i'm with Herby on this. i have been a MR fan for years and kept hope last year he would have a revival.....nope.

i think the combo of circumstances have added up and taken its toll. concussions, small-ish physical in nature playing a physically hard game, injuries/concussions leading to a Rx drug painkiller addiction(?).

i hate that it came to this, but it is what it is. Dean's loyalty caused this situation, both financially and possibly personally. what if he had known the signs better and been able to get mike the possible needed treatment to address the problem? that is a big if

i hope the guy gets clean, he's a young man with his life in front of him. a hockey career is secondary at this point.

I can't see a team signing him till after his court issues are settled. I think his next court date is Dec 8th or something.
So maybe he gets a chance with a team looking for a veteran presence and depth for its 4th line for a playoff push. Maybe he has to wait for a PTO next year.
I imagine he is unable to sign in LA? Not that anyone would want that, I just am morbid and would like to see him sign a $900K deal with the kings to piss off the main board.

He's got two rings. That's more than a considerable majority of players in the history of the league.

He is a free agent. He can sign anywhere, including the Kings. (Unless the terms of the settlement expressly forbids it; which I am thinking if the NHL is smart they would have forced that clause to be included in the language.)

One of the most decorated players ever in terms of championships. That's what makes his fall from grace even more shocking.

If you have a young team do you want him around your young players? No. If you're a rebuilding team do you want him at all? No, what's the point really? If you're a good team do you need him? This is another hand washing by the NHL, everything is fine, no big deal, we just happen to have another player who has substance abuse issues and we are doing NOTHING about it. Why has he not been placed in their super secret substance abuse program?

He may be fighting the possession charge just to ensure that he can travel the border freely. I'm still not sure that a simple possession charge for a Canadian controlled pain-killer in a small quantity is grounds to restrict your ability to cross the border but others think differently, so we'll have to wait and see. Logan Couture is hurt and Pete DeBoer and Richards have a good history with the Kitchener Rangers, including a Memorial Cup. Now Mike Richards is no Logan Couture but I wonder if there's some sort of fit there? Time will tell whether he ever plays again.
