Oh lord, I hope this isn't one of those things where we get to 2017 and this board collectively thinks DL sucks.

DL did what he could to bring us a championship team and though he believes in the future I don't think ANYONE expects Brown/Gaborik/Quick to be elite at the end of their contracts. Keep some perspective, people.

I don't think anyone feels that DL sucks. He just made one of the biggest mistakes in recent memory and it may prevent this team from having a chance to be a dynasty. And the sad thing is, he made so many great moves and draft picks from 2011 on this team could have been a force for the rest of the decade and probably won another cup or two, and one decision based more on heart than head might end the current run of this team

Even with the cap lowering, the Kings still would have had everyone signed long term or the money to get anyone signed long term and even been able to make a splash in UFA with so many other teams with cap issues. Now we are in potential cap hell because we either have almost 5 in dead space or almost 6 in a guy playing 10 minutes a night.

Dean's legacy is secure, even if the team sucks fir the next five years, but boy it's tough to think "what if" with how the Kings could look going forward without that albatross around their necks.

What I expect out of a third line is to provide energy and momentum swings when needed. I think Richards can still be very effective doing this.
I liked him with Clifford and lewis.
And prefer Richards to Stoll.
.
It really does not matter though as DL and Sutter think otherwise. And honestly they would know a hell of a lot more than I.

Way more work than just Richards.

When is Lombardi going to stop resigning bottom six black-holes like Stoll/Clifford ?

Greene for four years ?

Richards wasn't the be all end all to a Kings dynasty. Lombardi still wouldn't have filled Mitchell's shoes. Slava still would be suspended.

Lombardi has not addressed the Defense at all. Forbort is not ready, Gravel is not signed.

Lombardi has a lot of work ahead.

Brown and Quicks deals could be a problem in the future. I'm concerned about the Kopitar UFA deal...40 million over 5 or 6 years is about what he's worth.

Not overly worried. Dean's done enough for me to believe he can work his way out of this. He's the best GM in the league, hands down. Some of you guys are acting like the sky is falling. Yes, it's a precarious situation and hindsight is always 20/20, but let's focus on the present. I'm confident this team will be a contender for at least three more years after this season.

Who cares what happens 6 - 8 years from now? It's all cyclical.

I guess my point is just the shape of the team at the end of Quick/Brown/Gabby's deals is hampering people's abilities to enjoy the team now. It's not likely for another team to make a similar run in the cap era. not questioning DL's legacy, just trying to help people realize their standards may be getting a bit unrealistic. Not all contracts are going to be perfect, there is give and take and DL borrowed on futures to ensure the present. Most everyone on this board gets that but I guarantee the moment we get out of the Richards contract everyone turns their ire to someone else. Don't let your worry of the future cloud the current.

Brown captained the team to 2 championships and came to camp in great shape. If he isn't scoring, he is usually hitting.

Richards' tried to show up in shape, didn't work, and I haven't seen him throw a check since 2012.

Good post.

It's it in the realm of possibility to turn Mike Richards into Evander Kane?

Would any of you even want that?

I would do it. A guy once traded a paper clip up to a house. Flip this and flip that and before you know it we have Crosby at 75% retained salary and a 25% ownership stake in the Steelers.

Why would you want that cancer anywhere near our room?

He's young and maybe Sutter could whip his ass into shape.

I remember lots of people calling Jeff Carter a cancer in the locker room and it seems like both teams are trying to dump a player.

I'm not for our against it, just wondering what some of you might think.

I think Buddy the Elf said it first, but I'm counting down the days to the Brown thread.

Lombardi has taken his chances before. Hell, he brought that piece of **** Sean Avery back.

Kane does raise plenty of red flags, but who knows if his mindset or attitude matures or adjusts if he is traded. I would also be concerned with how serious he'd take his hockey career if he was dealt to a market like LA.

The talent is enticing, he looked great the last time the Jets were at Staples Center, creating offense, banging bodies, but all of his off ice antics really makes me wonder that he's taking his career very lightly.

IMO he is a slightly more skilled but less physical Wayne Simmonds.

He'd look pretty good for our pp paired with Doughty on the point.

That would require Brown's play to fall to a level as awful as MR's, and if that happens then he probably will have a thread with 2500 posts, and he will deserve it. As of now comparing Brown and Richards is like comparing an ear infection to ebola.

I don't understand the people who are implying that MR was some kind of scapegoat and once he goes someone else will fill the blame vacuum. MR's situation is unique, that is why there is also a massive thread on him at the main board, not every year, not even every decade someone goes from an elite player to an AHL player in a span of three years,

I know some people in Columbus that would disagree.

Where they in the locker room ? Which player came out and said Carter has an attitude problem ? Coach ?

Which team rule did Carter break outright with disregard for his team mates ?

Columbus has fan's that think Carter has an attitude problem. They don't know anything.

Just like Philly fan's.

Kane's problems are documented by legit league sources, and TEAM MATES, that don't like his (I) first attitude.

Carter doesn't have that problem and never did.

They said the same thing about Gaborik. That he is a "cancer" in the lockerroom. I dont think rumors like these should preclude Lombardi from going after a player. The Kings are a tight group and there are enough leaders on this team to prevent "cancer" from spreading. At this point, we do not need more "character" players, we just need one stay at home defenseman that can play 15 to 20 minutes a game, and a solid center to replace Richards. If Richards gets his game back in Manch, hopefully he can come back and play left wing.

FORBORT is not ready? Well, he's about as ready as the Kings might be able to get him. He is in the top 10 of the AHL in plus minus, and about the fourth D. He won't be perfect, but neither are a bunch of them right now. So, why does he get in? Because he's cap friendly at this point. The Kings already have 4 D signed to bigger money contracts in DD, JM, AM, VV, MG. I don't think they can afford to have 1 or 2 more contracts at D that are big. Thus, I don't think you'll see RR after this year. It's too bad. The cap forces teams to HAVE guys ready if need be.

Where's that video clip where Dustin Brown talks about all the leadership in the room and if you don't buy in (to their team-first culture,) you're out?
