I'm not so sure the hype on this kid warrants all the superstar kudos. Justin Schultz probably had a more storied college career than this kid.

From SI. I saw him play at mariuccu a couple times when he was the 5'9" guy. Electrifying on the big ice sheet. However, I'd agree with the rest of the article. Is he the next Duncan Keith?

Drafted at 5' 9", 165 pounds, he’s now listed at 6' 1", 183. His game has grown as well. The two-time All-American has the qualities that teams crave from a modern defenseman. He’s a remarkable skater and a fearlessly creative playmaker who can jumpstart the offense in transition. He has high-end vision, an excellent shot and a high panic threshhold. He was a consistent point producer for the Gophers and he made a strong impression while playing a more controlled game for the bronze medal-winning American side at the recent World Championships. He’s also seen as being weak defensively, has no physical game and plays a high-risk style that can sometimes burn his team.

Are you willing to JohansenTwitter the guy?

Because I'm interested in this player. Signing with the Kings. Down to the Kings and Blackhawks, just like the ****ing Stanley Cup every year.

I think he'd be a good signing, but he would still need some development.

He knows where the Cup will be for the next few years. :)

If he joins this team, he'll also know who one of the next $4+ mill homegrown defensemen will be.

If I'm him, I'm looking at Chicago and how many defensemen they've developed (a few) and how many the Kings have developed (a ton).

There is absolutely zero chance Lombardi is pitching starting in the minors, because the Kings would have been eliminated already.

Pretty much.

A year in the AHL wouldn't hurt the guy. But the Kings need a cheaper third pairing than A-Mart/Greene.

I would suspect Lombardi is pitching a third pairing role( at least a shot at it).

Reilly would start in Chicago, they need help badly on D. Especially cheaper help. The Hawks are probably the only team that can guarantee Reilly a roster spot. The Kings do have Forbort/Miller that are close.

The Hawks have nothing on their third pairing (of worth), are cap strapped, and the their AHL team is thin on the defense side.

so basically - does he want to be the next muzzin or the next rundblad

It's funny because I think it both helps and hurts the Kings. Kings defense pairings are notoriously difficult to crack and the pipeline has many close to pro defensemen because of the development team. So how effectively the Kings churn out defensemen I'm sure is the reason we're in his final 2 apparently. But, competition. Does he care about how he develops after he's on the big club or does he already think he's a ready made product? I'd be surprised if he did pick LA. It would say an awful lot about him if he did all things considered.

Maybe you all forgot that Dean was part of USA WC team in Czech Republic and was able to see from close how is he on and off the ice. And maybe he even present him how he see him and his role in LA organisation.

He has shown patience already by staying in college instead of jumping into professional hockey earlier. I wouldn't be so surprised if he was open to a year in the AHL before joining the NHL. If you are a LHD and want to join the NHL right away then the kings might be the worst spot in the league for you to go to.
Muzzin, Martinez, (maybe Sekera), for bort, and gravel. He would have to beat out 2 or 3 of those guys just to get a shot at 3rd pairing.

Not to mention we might be the least likely team to play a kid with no pro experience in the whole league. If he wants to play right away then he's not choosing us. I wouldn't even pitch that to him.

If I'm Lombardi I would come at it from the angle that "we don't need u to play right away, we will give u the chance to develop and we will put you in the best possible spot to be successful when you get here"

That's the only shot we have.

IF the Kings land Reilly, Forbort or Miller could be used in a trade to fill other holes...

I think this could be the largest impact the kings could make this year. He could be a huge impact by mid season and the future.

I hope we can land this kid, even though its a longshot. If not, at least we still have Gravel, Miller, and Forbort in the works. If he signs in Chicago I guess its just a case of the rich getting richer, which lately seems to be a common theme outside of the hockey world.

C'mon kid, who wants to play with Brent Seabrook when you could play with Drew Doughty mang.

While it may be difficult to call the Kings "rich" after this past season, they are still viewed like a Donald Trump around the league, i.e. he's still rich even though he's filed BK on more than one occasion.

If the Kings land this kid, it will also be the rich getting richer. Remains to be seen how much richer this kid will actually make a team, however.

The problem is he's a Chicago kid and all signs point to them. They need a young, cheap, guy, he's skilled, he's from the town, they just won a championship...I don't see how he DOESNT sign with them unless the money isn't right.

Beaches, women, weather, and playing on a team just as good as Chicago.

If Reilly were to sign with the Kings :amazed:

You'd have to give it up to Kings management again

And if he does, for some reason it would take some of the sting of possibly losing Sekera off. The sting losing that 1st rounder.
