Former Bruins Mike Reilly: Bought Out

Spot-on take on Reilly. The article points out what has been very noticeable about Reilly since his arrival with the Bs, and was the case with the Sens as well -- he gets A LOT of shots on goal. It is really kind of crazy that he has 0 goals this season, given how accurately he puts the puck on goal. It seems like at least a few would somehow find their way into the net. Regardless, his ability to put his shots on goal is kind of a big deal because it opens up the chances for redirects and put backs on rebounds. His passing is why I was mainly excited to see DS bring him to the Bs. Does he ever not make a tape to tape pass when he's not under a lot of pressure? Long pass, short pass, it doesn't matter. He is extremely accurate with his passes. Reilly truly has been a great addition to the D. I am hoping he is just a late bloomer and can continue to play as well moving forward as he has the second half of this season. His D play still isn't the greatest, but it has been far from bad with the Bs.

From Doms article:

"Last season, the Bruins blueline scored 32 goals and added 112 assists for 144 points in the 70-game shortened season. Prior to Reilly’s arrival, the Bruins blueline had scored 11 goals with 52 helpers in 39 games. That projects to 20 goals, 93 assists and 113 points over 70 games.
Since Reilly put on the Black and Gold jersey, the Bruins blueline has recorded 4 goals, 14 assists and 18 points in 8 games. Over a 70-game schedule, that projects to 35 goals, 122 assists and 157 points."

This is an absolutely huge improvement. I think that we've seen just the beginning of what Reilly will be developing in to in the next couple years.
Really hoping that the Bruins can keep him but with free agency and the expansion draft coming I'm afraid that they may lose him.

I watched the Habs game tonight and was less than impressed with Merrill! Glad we missed out on him and got Rielly!

Obtuse....How do you not understand that McAvoy is elite and almost anyone could be top 10 playing with him.......Fact is, its a shame that the team does not have a legit partner to compliment McAvoy.......Instead of sticking him with a 5-6 Dman....Bacause he skates pretty...

McAvoy's metrics are significantly better with Gryz than anyone else though.

Relly has been here 9 games......The scoring from the back end has improed significantly......Reilly is a better offensive player then Gry and he needs to be on PP 1.....Not Grelyck.

I like this and here’s why

1. Reilly gets shots thru
2. Second part of power play you put out Grzelcyk & McAvoy assuring when penalty up you have two D on ice

And i think the Bruins have adopted my position putting Reilly on PP 1....Where he showed right away he is the way way better PP player then a number 5-6 Dman
Pretty sure your opinion of “Grzelcyk is a depth defenceman at best” is at direct odds to the opinions of the Bruins.

not sure I`ve seen a D-man use the slap pass as often and be effective, been a real nice addition

He made a fantastic slap pass to Bergy on the PP at one point last night, you could see everyone prepare for the shot then he pulled off a hard, tape to tape, lateral pass instead. It's quite difficult to execute both the no-look deception and have it land flat on the blade but he nailed it. Underrated skill.

This is actually the toughest contract for me to get a handle on. Signing him changes the dynamic and future of the team so much, since it puts a legit puck handler on every pairing if we want.

If his agent is good, he can get 4.5-5m somewhere easy. Sweeney won't pay that.

As is he's trending towards a top 25 finish at his position in points. Almost everyone in his peer group and age group (he's 27) has gotten paid.

I was down on him more than I should have been given his inexperience in the playoffs but I thought he came alive in Games 4 and 5.

Someone mentioned it in the GDT but if he can put up Kaberle like assists and get plays started then I will be very happy.

He and Carlo seem like they have started to find a rhythm and I look forward to seeing what the pair does in Round 2 especially if Miller or Lauzon can't go.
