Former Bruins Mike Reilly: Bought Out

I was also all over Dennis Seidenberg in the summer of '09. Chiarelli signed Derek Morris instead and then had to give up Bitz, Weller and a 2nd round pick for Seidenberg and Bartkowski in the Spring of 2010.

So, in ~12 years, I think the Bruins GM should give me a call when looking for an under-the-radar defenseman. :)

The nice thing about Reilly is he is just coming into his prime years (later for D than F - think Boychuk and Seidenberg). If the Bruins can sign him after the expansion draft to a reasonable contract - 3 years, $6-7 million total, they could have a #4 D-man locked away for cheap for his prime years.

We will see. He could also be peaking at the right time

Maybe... hopefully, but not likely. He has a Corsi For of 70% in his Bruins games, his average the past five or so years (incl this year on Ottawa) is in the low to mid 50%s. Corsi For relative of 16.5 these past few games, past 5 years it's ow to mid single digits. I could go on.

I think we are seeing a guy on a very hot hotstreak. Very small sample size. Definitely hope you are right, but I think it is all but certain this one will also regress to the mean.

Bruins fans do the same thing. This year it’s debrusk, bjork and kuraly newest addition zboril. And zboril doesn’t even have 40 nhl games under his belt.
And last year it was Nick Ritchie/Danton Heinen:laugh:

Not so fast. Reilly has flashed for every team he has played for. I remember the Habs thinking he was a top 4. He always falls off though. He is depth and a place holder but nothing more. That 2.75 is better spent on Krejci, Rask or Hall. We can't afford to waste money a la Moore, Backes, etc...

Rask 5.5
Krejci 4.5
Hall 5.8
Carlo 4.0
Garland 3.25 (after Debrusk deal)
Ritchie 2.6
Reilly 2.75
Savard 5.0

All fits under the cap w our current squad

I treat Reilly the same way I do Hall. Show me. And even then, short deal. I am willing to expose our young D if Sweeney thinks Reilly has long term potential, but not at a cap hit that prohibits securing long term cost certainty with the young core guys. Reilly looks great, but there is no prior precedence for sustained success. The contract must reflect this or he walks.

good way woo players to sign with the Bruins

"on our terms, not yours!"

Definitely a game to forget. But the overall body of work has been great. He’ll bounce back

Even though Reilly had a weak game, Lauzon had a strong game so I feel it evened out. They’re winning while still trying to get healthy. Still missing 2 of their best defenseman in Carlo, Grzelcyk. While Miller isn’t one of their best defenseman he’s still mighty important. I’d rather he take a bit more time off in the regular season and be ready for the playoffs. This group:

Grzelcyk — McAvoy
Reilly — Carlo
Lauzon — Miller
Tinordi, Clifton, Zboril

is one I have a lot of confidence in. Especially with the forwards starting to click. LETS GO ON A RUN, BOYS.

I agree with most all of your post. I think Reilly will bounce back after a subpar game, like him with Carlo. Just fell our D is solider with Grzelcyk with Miller and Lauzon with McAvoy. simply a better mix and more balanced IMO

I would like to take this time to apologize for calling Rielly a JAG last week. He is above a JAG. Not sure how much above he is, but definitely above. :)

How about just canning that label altogether? It’s nothing more than a cliche, overused term emanating from the particularly reactionary and negative portion of the board that is insistent on “evaluating” the game and players in the most simple minded way.

I'd rate Kampfer a little higher but I love the 6.
For me, Kampfer, Tinordi, Clifton, Z.

nyet, that would just either

A) force Sweeney to use a protection slot on him
or
B) entice Seattle to take him

wait until after expansion draft, same with Krejci, Tuukka, Hall, etc
For B. Not entirely sure that's a bad thing, he gets taken, we don't lose anyone else. We lose another D, we have Reilly to take their spot.

2.75 might be a bit low, he's a UFA having a solid year. Might be one of his only years to "cash in", unless he does a short term deal and doesn't regress.
