Former Bruins Mike Reilly: Bought Out

I’d like the Bruins to re-sign him at a fair rate. He’s making $1.5 million this year but he has definitely earned a raise. I’m hoping they can sign him for 2 years, $4.5 million. I can see another team offering 3 years, $7.5-8 million.

Bruins should try and get rid of Moore somehow though to make this happen.

Term is huge. Never underestimate the "contract year" effect. Sign him to a 4 year deal and watch him fall off a cliff next year.

2 year max.

He has the size to be able to handle the grinding, hard hockey of the playoffs while also possessing the puck skills to aid our transition. Can’t have too many Gryz/Krug’s on the back end. Right now they have the perfect amount.

Good vs. the Caps. Let's see how he plays with a faster (if softer) forechecking team. He is still wary of the hit but has gotten much more comfortable from game 3 onwards. All good so far but let' see how he deals with faster pressure before we go for a 3-year type deal IMO.

Sens fans said the Bruins overpaid sending a 3rd... when they paid a 5th

Given how he has played, a 2nd rounder would of been fair. A 3rd is pretty good value knowing what we know now about Reilly. He was highly touted coming out of college, I guess it just took him awhile to put it all together at the NHL level but he's a solid puck-moving D-man here in 2021 after bouncing around a bit.

I was honestly nervous when he and Carlo were on the ice more often than not.

I have liked all three deadline acquisitions, and give SweeNeely their due.

I like Mike Reilly a lot, from what I've seen. I don't know about a three year deal (how old is he, upside?), but two years, $4.5 seems reasonable.

He's listed as 6ft 1, 190.

That's a small defenseman.

Had a tough first couple games but glad to see he settled in.
That's the way I saw it too. First 2 1/2 games it was kind of bad. I think he just needed to adjust to the competition. People need to remember he had been playing in the defenseless North then with the Bs a slew of games against Buf. By the second part of game 3 he started looking better. He started passing better with a man playing tight D on him, and his decisions in his own zone became better. Once he adjusted he looked a lot more respectable. Glad he turned his series around.

I don’t think that’s small, I think that’s more average nowadays. It’s definitely not big but I think it’s a lot more easier to survive at 6’1 190 than 5’9 175. That’s basically the point I’m making. He’s not a smurf

Average weight is 210 for NHL defensemen. 6'2 average height.

do you look at him and think he can’t physically handle regular sized NHL players like you would with Krug? Do you worry about him taking a beating and not being able to hold up? I know I don’t. I think he’s a lot more physically equipped to handle a bruising than most transition d-men are

he’s smaller than average (especially if you compare him to rugged stay at home guys) but he’s not small. Like 6’1 190 is a frame that can hold up. We see that with Gryz at 5’9 175 it’s hard for him to stay in one piece. I don’t have that concern with Reilly

Edit: I’m seeing 6’1 199 for him. So basically if he doesn’t take a dump in the morning he’s 200. Yeah his size gives me 0 concern and he’s definitely physically equipped to handle these vicious playoff games

I do look at him as frailish. He does get dumped on his butt a bit. He seems to be pretty elusive when he has the puck, though.

He did seem timid early on in the series. I don’t know what happened to him but he was a lot more willing to take the body the later we went in the series

Becareful of what you wish for. I have already seen too many weak clearings and passes to feel comfortable for a full year.
I was in favor of him coming in but he is working himself out the door if you ask me.

I know the power play has improved but i really liked it better when reilly ran it when mcavoy was hurt vs charlie or grizz out there.
