Mike Modano Statue to be Erected

I don't recall, but was Modano more humble or cocky as a player?

Based on this thread, it sounds like the latter.

I’m not sure I’d say cocky. He was young and brilliant, perceived as a bit soft and perhaps lacking in that good ol’ boy character that gets media attention. It didn’t work out when they made him captain. But he wasn’t like a Zegras or Roenick, out there running his mouth or anything. Maybe more like a Mitch Marner.

Always liked him from afar it was weird seeing him play that last year with Detroit… I don’t remember what happened that he ended up there was Dallas ready to move on?

Better than liking him from uncomfortably close, amirite? That’s pretty much what Mikey told me when I met him that one time- I was all, “yo, Mikey, all-time lettuce my man! Your flow is legit!” And he was like “Your vernacular is infuriating and your proximity to me far too near.” Then he skated down the sidewalk, wind blowing in the breeze. Glad they’re making a statue of it.

Salt and vinegar potato chips are the best.

Never hit 100 points. Stripped of the captaincy. Not sure if you've watched the Stars teams that actually won a Cup but he was a top-ten player on them, far from the most important guy. So why a statue? It's disrespectful to the guys that counted and stepped up in the playoffs.

A good player, sure. A deserving member of the US Hockey Hall of Fame. A decent case for the HOF. But vastly overrated. So munch away.

Yeah you are right, Mike Keane was so much more important.

Not sure if I agree there, although he was a key cog. But it's pretty obvious that Belfour, Zubov, Hatcher, Hull, Nieuwendyk, Lehtinen, Carbonneau, Langenbrunner were at least as important, if not more so to the actual success of the team.

Modano is by some accounts a nice, relatively handsome guy. He was a good, not great, player who could skate fast. But sure, he was the leading scorer there, so hell why not put up a dang statue?

You know you could've saved yourself so much time if you just started with that, right?

He's the franchise's all time leading scorer. His number's already been retired by the team.

Yes we know he never won any individual awards, never hit 100pts, stripped of the C, etc.

That's fine.

But he's still currently the greatest player in franchise history and fullly deserving of a statue to commemorate this fact.

Just my .02
