Mike Modano Statue to be Erected

Sorry you're down and not up on the subject here, Gaylord.

Wonder if they'll get his jersey flappin in the wind. He was my favorite player growing up in Dallas. I remember meeting him in a grocery store where he was doing a promotional event to bring awareness of the Stars to the community. There was no one at his foldout table so we stayed and chatted for a bit. He seemed very kind
I first met Mike when he was a rookie for the PA Raiders. My university buddy’s younger brother was playing for the Raiders, so that was the connection. I always admired that a kid would come from another country to chase his dream at the age of 17. I had left home for university at 17 and I was overwhelmed and it was only 3 hours down the road.

I can still see him lugging trainer trunks onto the bus after a game from the bowels of the old Saskatoon Arena, he was so slight! But let me tell you, he chose right, even though PA had and still has a reputation, it churned out some deadly players in that period - Modano, Manson, Baumgartner, Richie Pilon, not to mention the guys that went into coaching like Todd Nelson, Manny Viverois, Curtis Hunt and Edmonton Police Chief Dale McAfee - tough cookie! Tough place, tough team but it built character. Oh man, the fun on weekends that we had at house parties back then. LOL. Doug “Hobbie” Hobson…Life of the party.

Congrat to Mike. I agree, it would be so cool if they can create the jersey flapping effect into his statue. The guy could fly.

I don't recall, but was Modano more humble or cocky as a player?

Based on this thread, it sounds like the latter.

Well they do say everything is bigger in Texas, so I’m curious to see what size this erection will end up being.
It'll probably be scaled to match the Dirk Nowitzki statue that went up on the other side of the plaza last year. The position of that seemed to intentionally leave room for the Stars to do something.

If Dallas had a sense of humour, the statue would be him lying sideways on the ground on a gurney.
