Why the Oilers with Nurse, Ekholm Kulak and Broberg already on the left side with Gleason having had a really good camp too.

What makes you think the Oilers would be all over trading a 1st + Broberg/Holloway/Bourgault for another left handed defenseman who you also yourself described as a PP Specialist when they also have Bouchard?

Is it just me that doesn't see matheson as a high value player? He's decent offensively.. not great defensively.. almost 30.

I can't see him getting huge value back. Like a decent prospect or a mid first? If I'm wrong.. well wouldn't be the first time.

Matteson is good for what he does, but he isn't returning that in a trade unless a team is really desperate for a middle of the road pp specialist. Most teams already have that or a better version, including Edmonton. At this point, he hasn't shown much on competitive teams.

Matheson is a stud, today's Matheson isn't the Matheson you knew in Florida or even Pittsburgh. Saying he's a PP specialist is a bad take.

You're not wrong. He's a decent offensive d-man that most teams have one or two better versions of. A bit like Schultz, a few years ago, who was traded for what?

I've watched him in Montreal. He's a good option there, but that's because of a lack of competition. He's getting more minutes, more developed, yet not a second pairing on a good team. Would a team trade a 1st for him, sure, it's possible, but that team would have to be desperate and lack better options in the pp.

As someone who loves Matheson, he is absolutely not a top pair defenseman, he's absolutely not great on the PP and he's absolutely not on a great contract.

He's a good puck moving middle pair defenseman who can offer you strong ES production. He's a #3 defenseman with a good defensive partner on a good team IMO. That has value, but I don't think there's any chance a team pays a 1st and Broberg for him.

Matheson past season will be his all time for his career.

He should be traded asap.

And it only takes one desperate gm to overpay.

But 1 and Broberg? If you would like to make a call please hang up and dial again......

Math when he’s good…he’s damn good moving up the ice. When he’s bad? He’s really really bad.

From Math head to Meth head.

I think so too. He will be getting 25 mins a night, 1st PP etc. He will produce points this season. I assume Savard or Guhle will be his D partner.

Not sure what his value would be but it does not matter. If healthy he is likely in for a career year and his value will likely increase. It would be silly to trade him away at this point.

Seems like most fanbases around the league haven’t caught on that he is actually a pretty damn good dman based on the comments on here.

He's a top 4 dman that's overpaid for 3 seasons and will be turning 30. No ones saying he's not good, just that he doesn't have much value.

Matheson isn't a PP specialist/QB, like, at all. He can play there, but I'd be reluctant to describe him as anything more than a decent solution. Lacks high-end vision and passing. OP, FFS, you saw Andrei Markov playing for the Habs. THAT was a PP QB.

He's a LHD best cast as a #2 or #3 who skates very well, has otherwise pretty good offensive tools, brings some physicality, and isn't awful defensively but definitely has reading flaws which prevent him from being a legit two-way #1 (because his offensive tools aren't good enough to be a #1 solely on that basis, like, say, Erik Karlsson). The kind of player you ideally want achoring your second pair, or complement a better D-Men on your first pair. He's the #1 in Montreal (...for now), but ideally, somebody else push him down by the end of the season.

He definitely has value though.
