My word you're still trying to sell this narrative?

This isn't even close to true, a quick look across the league would tell you otherwise. Is Cale Makar a 3D cause under your uniquely insane definition he plays the 3rd most even strength time on his team so he's the 3rd best defenceman.

Devon Toews: 19:40 EV TOI/G
Samuel Girard: 18:51
Cale Makar: 18:30

So unless the best defenceman in the NHL is indeed a third defenceman your metric for quantifying what a 1D is predictably garbage can ready.

I can't believe how much time you spend trying to sell your nonsense, it's hilarious. I'm really looking forward to your response, I wonder what you'll think of next.
Yes let's compare the greatest player in the NHL to Mike Mardeson lmaooooo

But in Makars case it means he's not relied upon as the primary ES defender, yes. That doesn't make him not the best player in the world, but his usage remains the same. It's pretty much black and white.

It’s obvious that MSL is scared to put his big boy pants and to give the #1PP job to Hutson. I assume it’s about Matheson’s feelings. I don’t know why else. I really hope he doesn’t do the same with Demidov next season. Caufield, Slaf won’t make a tantrum guaranteed.

You find this "obvious" ? He's playing a 5'10" 160lbs rookie defenseman like 27 minutes. That seems like a coach who's scared ? I don't think we've ever seen that in this city.

Even the play-by-play commentators was expecting Matheson to be kicked out of PP1 in the 3rd against the Sabres. Matheson was looking the greenest of all the Ds in that game and should have been held accountable for it, but wasn't.

And Xhekaj can play more than 10 minutes. There is a way to balance the LD TOI.

Why isn't said rookie on the PP1? When everyone can see it?

Come on man. I'm not sure why you chose to white knight management so hard these days.

You can be confident in some areas and not in others. He's not scared to give (most of) his rookies plenty of rope, but he very well could be scared to rock the boat with any of his veterans, especially a local guy who is probably playing for his next contract on a rebuilding team.

I don't really get it because you'd figure it'd be easier to say something to a vet guy. "Man you should know better than this. Rein it in. You are costing us goals all over the place."

But there's a reason some guys are better junior coaches than they are pros (Ducharme comes to mind).

During a tank rebuild?

Head scratching to not sell this guy at his highest value imo.

Some will say it's not EA sports but this is a management that received 2 first for monahan in some shrewd asset management so it's not like this is an unknown concept to hughes and co

Is it personal favoritism? Hometown guy ? Good vet in the locker room? Probably a bit of it all.

I'm not sure how high Matheson's trade value was this summer.

What do you think it was? I say a late 1st or an early 2nd tops. He had an up and down track record. One very good year offensively wasn't going to change that.

Last TDL was the best time to pull the trigger, a lot of us said so at the time, not sure he has any value now the way he is playing

Slaf was clearly frustrated with him at the end of last season (because he never passed to him on the PP, that's in the Rebuild series) and Guhle was pissed at him last game against the Sabres.

I don't think his voice carry much weight with the kids anymore.
Then the kids need to take over the team.

Habs need a RHD so Guhle can shift over to his natural left side, he can take those minutes for 5 on 5 and PK. Hutson can take the PP1 duties while Guhle gets the PP2.

It will be a great test to see if Guhle can actually be a number 1

That's how I see it for his minutes being filled.
If Guhle's play tonight is any indicator, this player is no number 1 defenceman. He iced the puck multiple times, he made numerous turnovers, he fumbled the puck at the offensive blueline that led to a 2 on 1 against that Matheson had to bail him out off, he wasn't particularly physical and he provided very little offensive push. Even Struble was more active than Guhle. Maybe it was just a bad game, but from what I saw, he's got to do a lot of growing to be even considered as a potential number 1.

I thought he was decent but we Habs fans are notorious for over valuing our players. Guhle is nothing special. I hope he does develop into a decent top 4.

I agree last year was the best time. With that said, he is still projecting for 48 points, which, although not as good as before, is "not" nothing. He still has value. And if the team starts playing before, I think Matheson's numbers will also improve, thus increasing his value.

The kids............know who is the future.

Matheson has not played well, it's that simple. Our current GM is very careful on how people are treated in the organization now, and probably wants to treat his player right, and also wants max value out of a vet at the deadline this year...........................which I think he can still get, by having Matheson on PP2 FFS..............

He's pacing for 30+ points again while playing zero PP and providing A1 defense on his opposite side. Can you find a lot of bottom pairing Ds that do this?

Your opinion is not rooted in reality and by your own account you don't watch the games, so why provide an opinion?
I haven't watched alot this year...maybe half...I hope he becomes a top pairing guy...he isn't there yet.
