He is obviously playing hurt. His level of poor play didn't all of a sudden materialize. He is a good player that is playing too many minutes.
Perhaps this is what an elite skater looks like when they're playing with a groin nor other injury.

When I used to try to play through a groin injury, I could barely move, let alone try to twist my body to try to fake people out. I would look like I didn't belong in the league.

I hope Matheson doesn't do more damage to the muscle/ligament injury he's playing through. Doing so cost Weber his career.

We will see. Matheson has given us a great brand of hockey too except the last couple of games. We dont have that big of a sample size either.
He did the same for Florida when they signed him to his 8 year contract.
Then dipped quickly and spent on old man yandle.
Florida is my 2nd favourite team, and I’ve followed them for a long time . This dude is not a player you win with

Its very possible. He has grown a lot since his time in Florida too. He is played 60 games with us. At the end of the season, we will have a sample of 130 games and then we will be able to draw a real conclusion.

Matheson was never good and you guys got goofed into thinking he was a good top 4 option because of a 30 game hotstretch points wise. His reads have always been bad, his puck handling has always been terrible and he's always had a bad shot, it's nothing new, it's the same thing I scouted in 2012.

Stop falling in love with every new blonde that turns the corner and try to be objective.

Except he hasn’t. It’s the same guy.

He's trying to do too much by himself. He needs to simplify his game because he's the cause of so many bad plays and turnovers right now.

Does he have a bum wrist? fumbling the puck so often. I remember having the same issue when I had to bandage a wrist, not the same feel, very frustrating!

He is injured but he is also not good in general. His reads are terrible, his shooting sucks, his puckhandling is comparable to Hal Gill. His injury was a LB.

He has flaws but he was pretty decent for a while, helping a lot offensively. Now he has nothing to offer essentialy. That is a serious drop.

Knowing your heart is set against Matheson lends me to believe he might well genuine top-4 option.

Your assessment of players tends be very reliable that way. ;)

This perhaps he's injured right now but we have been seeing the Matheson of Florida and Pittsburgh. Can skate fast and enter the zone but anything else is a struggle.

The Matheson of last season was a fluke in his career. When you play dead hockey for months , you have no pressure. Same goes for RHP

Better than Petry and he’s injured. He was lights out for the better end half of last year. Do I believe in him? Not sure

His play recently is why I didn't like the trade when it was announced, because of the length of the contract.

But he was good last year for more than a small sample size. Now he's bad this year for a small sample size. He says he's not playing injured. But we don't know for sure. I'll wait and see on him...

Anderson was good last year for more than a small sample size. Now he sucks. Only solution I have for Anderson is to play him with RHP, or Gallagher. He seems to play well with those players that can discombobulated the opposition, and whose work ethic rubs off on him.

Absolutely agree with the bolded part about who has a chance of getting the most out of Anderson.

Anderson played well with Dubois in Columbus, but Dubois is not a pure skills player. He has a N/S component to his game and a physical dimension that meshed well with Anderson's own style of play. I also think that Anderson plays a better physical game when he is not the only one applying that style on his line.

Armia could be another solid match for Anderson. Then, it all depends who the C would be?

IMO, RHP - Dvorak - Anderson should be a decent line, as should be Anderson - Dvorak - Armia, where Anderson would have more angles to the net on his off side on the rush, charging at the opposing G on those nifty breakaways he routinely gets, but doesn't cash in.

Playing in the bottom - 6 against lesser opposition will also help Anderson exploit his speed against more static Ds.
