That had to be one of the worst games I’ve seen a dman had for a long time. Just can’t catch a pass at the blue line without fumbling it.

Said it earlier this week, the same things that make Matheson good, also make him bad.
You can see why he’s struggled with consistency his career because the tools are there but he struggles with knowing when less is more.
He’ll have a lane to make a simple pass, and instead of passing it, he’ll try to draw a defender away and then attempt the pass.
He’s definitely an adventure back there.

He fumble passes everywhere, not just at the blue line.
He's trying to do too much. He's a #3 dman trying to do #1 dman things. Its not sustainable and ends up in consistency issues. He needs to scale it back.
He shouldn't play over 21-22 minutes per game and should not be killing penalties.

He shouldn’t. But we’re a rebuilding club. This is what you get. He’d be much better as a 2nd pairing guy.

Yeah having him come in and try to play a number 1 role is too much for his talent quotient. Petry was far better when he had to assume that mantle. MSL needs to explain to Matheson that "Positionless" hockey does not mean "Brainless" hockey. I've said it for two years now Guhle is far better at joining the rush for a number of reasons starting with when to do it followed up with proper execution once he does.

Why? He has always averaged 18-22 minutes of ice time. harshly speaking this is is job, simplify his game and stop trying to be on a highlight reel ( the bad end ) unfortunately every night.

This is the Mike Matheson that Florida gave up upon. Petry was much better even older oh well

We will see. Matheson has given us a great brand of hockey too except the last couple of games. We dont have that big of a sample size either.

The main problem is his lack of puck control. He is absolutely horrible any time the pucks on his stick and he doesnt have open space ahead of him.

He is obviously playing hurt. His level of poor play didn't all of a sudden materialize. He is a good player that is playing too many minutes.
