What if the Habs fade a bit as the TDL approaches (lets just say)... Would the Canucks be interested in both Evans and Matheson? Evans is a pending UFA and Matheson has one more year after this year left.

I would think so. But Evans is more the kind of player that teams love to acquire at the deadline for a contender.

Don't think Matheson is on the market tbh. He's been playing well lately on the right side of Hutson. We have nothing to replace him so don't think KH will risk trading him and then have nobody to play with Hutson.
Agreed. Maybe next year. But barring an offer they can't refuse i don't see him going anywhere

I doubt Matheson will come on the market and if he does, it will cost a lot more then you think. WAY MORE.

With Mailloux still a year away and Rein a complete unknown, there is no hurry to move Math. Savard though, open for offers.

WTF....!!? 😂

I, like many, should not come to this board after smoking too much BC homegrown

Have you seen what he got the last two times he got traded? HE is the same player now as then.

You think VAN will give us 2 1sts? Because that's what it would cost them.

Yeah. Next year's TDL is a much likelier time to trade him.

So you're saying he also scored 62 points in a season with FLA and PIT? Because I could've sworn he was 9th in scoring for d-men last season.

MM is getting spoon fed minutes. On a good team with actual D men? he wont get anywhere near the same amount pts or ice time

That happens when there's a clear lack of solid experienced D-Men. Look at Vancouver, Hughes is a great defenseman but there's a clear lack going on and he ends up overused. Now that we have Carrier and Hutson MM's in a better spot. If an NHL team needs a D-man for the PP and about 20min of ice time Matheson's perfect. He can be physical, play the PK too. People went on about his brainfarts but now playing with Hutson on his offside he's doing much better. Why? because Guhle and Carrier are eating a lot of minutes.

Long story short, Matheson has turned into a great 2nd pairing minutes guy. He can pot 50-60pts, play PP and PK, be physical and be solid on the Right though he is naturally a LD. Sure he's projecting to only get 40+pts this season but that's because we have a Hutson that's eating all the PP minutes.

62 pts places him 9th in defenseman scoring last season. Unless you're telling me there are only 8 good teams in the league? He has done better offensively than many defenders playing on better teams, so why wouldn't he be given PP time?

He's not a perfect player by any means, but he's still a positive impact player even if he's prone to a massive gaffe every 4-5 games.

Only reason he isn't on the Montreal first PP this year is because we have a PPG potential PP quarterback on the team now.

The ONLY reason MM is quarterbacking the second PP is the guy quarterbacking the first PP is even better and trying to win the Calder. If Hutson had a decent shot, good grief, we may have a top 5 PP. Next year, if Demigod comes in as advertised, Laine gets rid of his demons, well, let's see where we are...

posters should pay attention to Hughes' mid season presser yesterday.
It doesn't sound like he wants to move anyone if they're playing meaningful
games in April.
He's not going to add, but with 7 picks in the 1st 3 rounds, he's not going to
trade Savard or Dvorak for a mid-round pick either.
Unless the stereotypical overpayment takes place OR if he wants to give a guy like
Savard or Armia a chance to win a cup (and they agree) then maybe a deal takes place...
but it sounds like habs are standing pat.
They're certainly not moving Matheson imo.

Since Matheson has been put on a pair with Hutson, both are like +7.

This pair allowed Matheson to be more conservative, Hutson inherited Matheson's former role and it has paid.

So maybe those that were saying Matheson would be better if put on a more equilibrated role were right.

I think he's a good defenseman, he has all the tools to be a good 2-way defenseman.

He was just overused and put on a role that doesn't get the better of him defensively.

Matheson is basically our RD stop gap for when Reinbacher will be ready. Habs fans might shop him and talk about his value on HF boards but the Habs management are not shopping him but we would be willing to talk if teams call us. It's not the other way around where we are calling them.

If anything, Matheson might be extended if he is willing to take a fair team deal that fits our cap structure.

I don't think.hes as bad as he's shown this season, just like he's nowhere as good as last seasons illusion. The problem.is he's an undersized bottom 6 pjsyer with a contract that was a clear overpay. Yeah, he has skill, but not enough to get a full time top 6 player and hes being paid too much (starting next season) to be a valuable bottom 6 player. There's a reason that he's being thrown into practically every proposal coming from a Canuvks fan. He and Desharnais are a waste of valuable cap space.
If you think last season was an illusion you haven't watched the kid play, like at all, which makes sense given your opinion of him.

The 20+% shooting percentage is the illusion I'm referring to. It was never sustainable and this season proves it. You fet fans going on about his 24 even strength goals like that's who he is. But last season was an outlier. I believe his awful shooting percentage this season is just as much an outlier. He's better than he's shown this year. That said his new contract that kicks in next season is an overpayment for what he brings. If it wasn't he wouldn't be included in just about every proposal made by Canucks fans this year. He's the new "Raymond" in Raymond , Ballard and a 2nd
