What if the Habs fade a bit as the TDL approaches (lets just say)... Would the Canucks be interested in both Evans and Matheson? Evans is a pending UFA and Matheson has one more year after this year left.

I would think so. But Evans is more the kind of player that teams love to acquire at the deadline for a contender.

Don't think Matheson is on the market tbh. He's been playing well lately on the right side of Hutson. We have nothing to replace him so don't think KH will risk trading him and then have nobody to play with Hutson.

Agreed. Maybe next year. But barring an offer they can't refuse i don't see him going anywhere

I doubt Matheson will come on the market and if he does, it will cost a lot more then you think. WAY MORE.

With Mailloux still a year away and Rein a complete unknown, there is no hurry to move Math. Savard though, open for offers.

Have you seen what he got the last two times he got traded? HE is the same player now as then.

You think VAN will give us 2 1sts? Because that's what it would cost them.

Yeah. Next year's TDL is a much likelier time to trade him.

So you're saying he also scored 62 points in a season with FLA and PIT? Because I could've sworn he was 9th in scoring for d-men last season.

MM is getting spoon fed minutes. On a good team with actual D men? he wont get anywhere near the same amount pts or ice time

That happens when there's a clear lack of solid experienced D-Men. Look at Vancouver, Hughes is a great defenseman but there's a clear lack going on and he ends up overused. Now that we have Carrier and Hutson MM's in a better spot. If an NHL team needs a D-man for the PP and about 20min of ice time Matheson's perfect. He can be physical, play the PK too. People went on about his brainfarts but now playing with Hutson on his offside he's doing much better. Why? because Guhle and Carrier are eating a lot of minutes.

Long story short, Matheson has turned into a great 2nd pairing minutes guy. He can pot 50-60pts, play PP and PK, be physical and be solid on the Right though he is naturally a LD. Sure he's projecting to only get 40+pts this season but that's because we have a Hutson that's eating all the PP minutes.

62 pts places him 9th in defenseman scoring last season. Unless you're telling me there are only 8 good teams in the league? He has done better offensively than many defenders playing on better teams, so why wouldn't he be given PP time?

He's not a perfect player by any means, but he's still a positive impact player even if he's prone to a massive gaffe every 4-5 games.

Only reason he isn't on the Montreal first PP this year is because we have a PPG potential PP quarterback on the team now.
