All our D played well tonight. The only defencemen I didn't notice was Liles. He was invisible I was wondering if he was even playing cause I missed half the first period.

Liles covered up for mistakes of Franson. Phaneuf made a one very poor play that contributed (along with scrivens and kulemin) to a goal against. And Komisarek was lucky White got a penalty for running Scrivens because the ref bailed Komi's bad play on the game out there. But I do agree much fewer mistakes all around for the leafs defence

The d was coherent and that's a great sign. Long time defender of defensive d shot in the feet by Wilson system.

Regardless komi seemed good yesterday and I am glad, I really hope he turns it around. He's a character guy, I just can't hate him.

I thought Mike Komisarek played very well last night. There's a difference in how he approaches defensive zone coverage from years prior: he's not scrambling to cover guys or taking himself out of the play.
I'm impressed. The new coaching staff must be having a calming influence on him.

We're gonna have an issue with D when Gardiners back. Who sits? And we will have 3 Offensive defencemen in Liles, Koska and Gardiner. I like Liles but he may be expendable and his contract isn't good.

He made a real nice rub out on Bourque. I figured where he isn't the biggest he wouldn't do it but he did. I'm forever infuriated watching players not do the simple thing by rubbing guys out. I noticed Emelin doing that all night long.

I thought Komisarek played sound last night. The only guy on D who scared me out there was Franson. While he made a great pokecheck that definitely saved a potential SHG by the Habs he also reminded me a few times of how bad the Leafs were in their own end the last few seasons.

Im sure they would if they can catch the players. I did noticed however the -25lbs less weight difference makes, he seemed quicker.
Only one game, but the whole team looked better defensively last night. Will be a real test to see how they cope with the Penguins mid week. The defence were pretty good throught out the night. Seemed like they kept it simple and noticed better decisions all round. Only issue, need to get a little more nasty in front of our net. Gionta should have been flattened before scoring.

Komisarek was good last night. He won't ever be worth the 4.5M cap, but I think it's safe to say that he could be more effective under Carlyle.

He's still got one more year to run. However if he continues to play solid Nonis might be able to ditch him at the deadline

Franson was horrible. Couldn't make a pass if his life depended on it.
Dion was ok - he's so weak infront of Scrivens its laughable.

Doesn't matter who's man it was - if they are standing infront of the goalie its Dion's job to either move them out or tie them up - at the very least take away their stick.

Franson looked bad at first but I noticed he was on the left side, once he was put on the right he was much better.
Komisarek did okay too, he won't ever be worth 4.5 million but if he can just play NHL calibre defense and play physical its what we need.

If Komi plays all year like he did against Montreal, he will be a valuable asset to keep or trade.
