I'd have to think the Flames would have some interest. Not enough threats to score from the top of the circles. Have a strong enough team at 5v5 to carry Hoffman, would help the powerplay.

Certainly not willing to add much to Monahan though.
Don't want or need Monahan. Likely rebuilding. Picks and prospects.

How's he doing in Montreal?
Just looking at his stats, a 32 year old player with 4 goals and 4 assists in 15 games getting paid $4.5m AAV until July 2024 doesn't seem to me to be too enticing.
Can't just look at his point totals. The whole team has struggled all season to score goals. He's been one of the best players on the team when playing.

All things considered, he's been fine overall. He missed training camp, plays on a new line every game, has no D who can transition the puck and the Habs' powerplay is disgusting.. so 8 points in 15 games is not bad considering how bad this team is.

Hoffman would garner interest around the league, but I cant see him returning much of anything unless he money is coming back. I could see, for example, Tanner Pearson & a 3rd for Hoffman. Something like that, maybe a little more. Not saying Vancouver would or should do that, just an example.
And Why would the Habs do that? They get a worse player MUCH worse player), a worse contract, for a 3rd?

Not that I want to get rid of Monahan, but I've heard Montreal could use a C just a Calgary could use a RW.

Calgary gets an older player with term, Montreal gets a 27 yr old C with one more year left on his contract after this season. If he makes the grade you re-up him.

If no deal to be had, no worries.
And What are CGY sending MTL's way to cover the fact Monahan has less valeue than Hoffman? W don't need the cap space, CGY clearly does if they want to keep JG tho

One dimensional player with a history of being a below average teammate. He has negative value.
Honestly he's not as bad as we've been told defensively, not great, but trying. The teamate things was what 8 years ago!? He's now been on 3 teams and there hasn't been a single issue reported. Probably not a great leader, but I wouldn't say he's a bad teamate. Also, just look at Evander Kane.... no one cares really of you're a scumbag or a saint.

If I were the owner of the Ottawa Senators, I would trade you a 7th round pick so that I could demote him to the AHL, then the ECHL and then bench him. f*** that guy.

Accepted no takebacks.

Id say keep him. He might put up a lot of goals next year or the one after that and could garner a much better return at that point in time. We still have to ice a team and can't go all rookie like the sens are doing. I agree that he seems to be the selfish type, but he usually produces a lot of points. Let's trade him at next year's deadline or the one after that

Escalating contract, and his salary is greater than the cap hit starting next season. I think it would have to involve some retention. Maybe around $2M?

I don't think Montreal could get a 1st out of trading him either. It seems the NHL is entering a period of where GMs are getting stingy with their 1st round picks. Heck, since Doug Wilson is on LOA, that in itself makes the league look stingy trading 1st round picks. That guy handed out 1st round picks like candy at a halloween.

Never wrote bad teammate. Florida wanted him outta town after a 70 pts season, didn't last long in St Louis and Montreal is looking to move on from him and there don't seem to be any takers. I think teams care. Evander Kane went to team with lots of veteran leadership and I feel he is more talented than Hoffman.

You literally wrote : below average teammate
He finished his contract with both St.Louis and Florida. Very disingenuous to say "they wanted him outta town after 70pts season" or "didn't last long in St.Louis".
Of course Kane is a better hockey player then Hoffman right now. The point was, even if he was a locker room problem, it's not an issue to a lot of teams. Proofs : Kane with Oilers, Hamonic with your very own Senators, heck, Hoffman to Floride, St.Louis and Montreal haha

Tyson Barrie or Zack Kassian for Hoffman? Oil will need top six winger options next season since the team can only afford to bring back one (maybe two) of Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, and Kane as of right now unless Duncan Keith decides to retire.

Really, seems to me like many 1st were traded in the past year. 1 from Calgary, 2 from Tampa, 1 from Vegas, 1 from Boston, 1 from Chicago, 2 from Florida, 1 from Carolina traded back to Arizona, 1 from Colorado and a ton of 2nd round picks. All of that in the last year.

The Blues were in on bringing back this offseason, and he chose Montreal instead
