If I were the owner of the Ottawa Senators, I would trade you a 7th round pick so that I could demote him to the AHL, then the ECHL and then bench him. f*** that guy.

hahah in other words, a 7th to tell him to Fawk Hoffman!

Agreed, not his fault Karlsson lied to the media with false claims then pretended like nothing happened. Sens fans will go to great lengths to defend Karlsson's legacy though.

I don't think either player is at fault; this is a conflict between the wives. Who cares.

What’s Montreal willing to retain? That’s the real question. I doubt at full hit there’s many contenders looking to shop assets for him without least dead cap going back.

You can only retain on 3 contracts and those spots have to be kept open for Price, Gallagher, Petry if we decide to move them cause they don't want to be in a rebuild. We would consider retention on Chiarot cause he is a pending UFA and that expires at the end of the year.

Id retain Hoffman and look to move him later in his contract term. Unless some team wants him but we are not going to just trade everyone over the age of 25 just cause.

Why would MTL trade him at a discount ? The guy is one of the best shooters in the league.

Also he just signed so he won't be traded right now except if he wants to.
Gorton has no ties to any contracts in our team that was all Bergevin so yes Jeff can trade anyone he wants

I actually like Hoffman u can see hes skilled and has a wicked wrister but rebuild mode

Funny how far people will go to villainize either side of this thing. Might want to get your facts straight.

To steer this back on topic, I don't think Hoffman is the type of player that most teams value, despite his ability to put the puck in the net. As a UFA to be he obviously would garner a nice return, but with 2 years left I wouldn't be surprised if he got soft return. I think Montreal's best chance at recouping value would be to take back a contract.

I'm confused why does Calgary want to trade Monahan ?
They don't. I was speculating that we have relative strength at the centre position, but an organizational weakness at right wing. The thread is about the possible value of Hoffman if Montreal were to trade him.

Yes but still I don't have an example in mind where the guy was traded in the first year of a signed UFA deal without a request. Also, even in a rebuild, you want to maximize the return of the players you trade. Hoffman has been good (one of the few good surprises) but his value is far from his peak.

Wouldn't be a good look for Montreal to deal a recently signed UFA

Well Hoffman probably signed thinking we were a bubble team that had a fair chance to make the playoffs so there there is that too. Reality has sunk in and the lost of Weber and Danault has hurt way more than expected. Price and Eddy not healthy. Ripple effects.

If the Habs decide to rebuild, players will understand. Fans might not

What are the facts though?
Last I heard the case was basically thrown out? Records were sealed because Karlssons wife couldn't prove it was Hoffmans fiance who did it, after a 1000 comments?

i agree that it would look bad if Gorton was the one to sign him then trade him a few months later but this is not Jeffs team he came here to fix this mess so if trading Hoffman makes sense for him he will do it imo

If Dadonov returns a 3rd and a serviceable bottom pair D man like Holden on an expiring deal there is a market for Hoffman.

I mean I know first hand it wasnt false. Dont care for either Karlsson or Hoffman and have had the opportunity to meet/hang out with them both a few times. They deserve one another.

As people the contrast between these two guys and players like Ryan, Stone, Methot and Macarthur is night and day.

He is worth at absolute best a 3rd and a marginal prospect/player. He was a UFA two seasons in a row and teams only showed luke warm interest in him. With the Habs cap situation I could see the pick slipping unless the Habs retain.

No team will want him for 3 more years unless they give up an equivalent cap dump. His defensive play is really bad, making him unplayable at even strength other than on a 3rd scoring line. He's a pp specialist.

I'd have to think the Flames would have some interest. Not enough threats to score from the top of the circles. Have a strong enough team at 5v5 to carry Hoffman, would help the powerplay.

Certainly not willing to add much to Monahan though.
