What’s Montreal willing to retain? That’s the real question. I doubt at full hit there’s many contenders looking to shop assets for him without least dead cap going back.

Hoffman would garner interest around the league, but I cant see him returning much of anything unless he money is coming back. I could see, for example, Tanner Pearson & a 3rd for Hoffman. Something like that, maybe a little more. Not saying Vancouver would or should do that, just an example.

A team desperate for PP help could overpay at the deadline but having 3 more years is not great for any team near the cap.

Minnesota if 50% retained? Otherwise maybe upcoming teams like Detroit, Anaheim or New Jersey could be a fit.

Not that I want to get rid of Monahan, but I've heard Montreal could use a C just a Calgary could use a RW.

Calgary gets an older player with term, Montreal gets a 27 yr old C with one more year left on his contract after this season. If he makes the grade you re-up him.

If no deal to be had, no worries.

If you trade for Hoffman at the deadline, you have him for two more years, not three.

I font hate it, definitely would be a draft day trade though, if Habs pick 1st or 2nd I think the Centre search will be over.

As a neutral party actually seems fair. Calgary needs to add a little.

Interesting idea, but Hoffman would be a horrible fit in a Darryl Sutter system IMO.

Minnesota wouldn't. He's not the type of guy under this gm that would be brought into the lockerroom, and next year with Rossi, Joel Eriksson Ek, Nico sturm, and Ryan Hartman, Minnesota doesn't have any need for c. Also cap is a problem, so not even 50 percent will they take him on

I'm confused why does Calgary want to trade Monahan ?

Why would MTL trade him at a discount ? The guy is one of the best shooters in the league.

Also he just signed so he won't be traded right now except if he wants to.

He will draw interest, scoring is something everyone is looking for...Even with the flaws in his game he can still pot 25 maybe more...
