Confirmed with Link: Mike Babcock Hired as Oilers Head Coach | Presser

"I left Columbus because we weren't together as a staff."
Could be shades of truth.

(Only subjective speculation, riddled with assumptions. This also doesn’t reflect my opinion)

If there was no evidence to block him from coaching, maybe he felt players wanted him gone in order to play a nonsense game with a coach with a less aggressive style.

Perhaps he left because instead of coming to him with an issue and requesting an explanation and apology they went to the media and ratted him out.

This would make anyone want nothing to do with an organization.

(Just food for thought)

I don’t love that he didn’t just lay out an explanation for Columbus, it does make it sounds as bad as some camps claimed

While I don't doubt there's more to the story, I do doubt it's way worse. You're not going to keep something like that under wraps with 40+ people knowing, especially as Babs was and is an easy target to pile on.

Imo it's probably comparable to Perry and Chicago.

Was Perry being a dumbass, yes. Was it justifiable for a team that doesn't want to deal with another HR headache to cut bait and tell him to f' off? Yeah, even if other organisations might've tolerated it.

Same with Columbus. Was Mike a dumbass and trying to be a control freak? Probably. Was it justifiable for a team to cut bait on a guy already pushing boundaries on the 1st day of his 2nd chance? Yeah probably; even if you'd give more rope to anybody else.

Let's see if Mike's actual learned that his reputation can't cash those cheques his ego wants to write anymore.

Ah, there it is, Babcock reaching into the past talking about the Red Wings. lol. Bro, that was like 18 years ago old man.

First order of business on day 1 of camp.

I never expected that presser to sway me in any direction and it sure didn't. I also knew it wasn't going to be Babcock outright discussing his controversies even when asked, so no surprise there.

AGAIN, still not a fan of Babcock and his bullshit and never will be.

But still very much just here to see how it all plays out because what else can we do, man.

I'm glad this shit is out of the way and we can hopefully soon see more additions to this team to make it better

Probably, Bowman should have gotten better players also.

Indeed, but using a handful of them the majority of the game, and benching guys after games where they scored goals and played complete games in severely limited minutes was a very bad look

People are worried about Babcock and attracting players, if any support UFAs and their agents were paying attention, they would have had concerns about getting minutes with Knob, even big name guys like Skinner and Mangiapane getting buried.

I won't comment on the hire (no idea how this is going to go, and I would have personally avoided the baggage if possible).

But man, if Babcock actually holds Connor & Leon to playing a team game and not skipping out on defense to play offense...they have needed that for years (the stars and the depth guys).

No more playing late in season to score personal milestones instead of resting injuries. Hopefully this results in better performance on the ice with actual accountability for everyone, especially the stars.

What the f*** does that even mean? What a worthless answer.

Babcock and his team sent Yzerman to the retirement home (I mean it was really Roloson but I digress)
He said Yzerman went from an offensive dude to a player that paid more attention to the other details of the game and then started winning cups.

Is that not what we want from McDrai?
